Interesting how the draft has evolved into taking the guys with the best careers to just taking guys you personally like regardless of career.

Just got up. I see I'm on the clock and am looking through my "board".

I'm also trying to make breakfast.

well, we are getting into the 200's now, although the fact that a certain tag team is still undrafted is... remarkable.

There is a heavyweight I can't believe is still on the board.

With the 17th pick in the eight round (206th overall pick) in the Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft, the Dynasty Wrestling Federation selects:

Entrance Music

Spoiler:

Tiger Mask (Satoru Sayama) is a legendary Japanese junior heavyweight (cruiserweight) who is the only person to hold the WWF and NWA junior heavyweight championships.

Though primarily a star in Japan, Tiger Mask made a huge impact in the WWF in the early 1980s, wowing audiences with a style not seen before. I may have first seen Tiger Mask in this match from the WWF’s weekly syndicated show. He gets a polite ovation at the introductions but three minutes later, the crowd is going crazy for him.

He won several of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s earliest awards including Best Technical Wrestler (1982, 1983), Best Flying Wrestler (1982, 1983), and a five star Match of the Year (1983).

With the 18th pick in the eight round (207th overall pick) in the Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft, the Dynasty Wrestling Federation selects:

Entrance Music not on You Tube

Spoiler:

Verne Gagne is a ten time AWA world heavyweight champion. Verne has the third longest world title reign in any promotion (behind Bruno Sammartino and Lou Thesz) and is first in most combined days as world champion.

Gagne spent the first decade of his career wrestling in the NWA, winning many titles. He had some support to win the NWA title from Thesz but political/business reasons prevented it.

Eventually, Gagne formed his own promotion, the American Wrestling Association, with himself as the top draw. He owned and operated the AWA from 1960 to 1991. Operating mostly in the Midwest, it was one of the most successful wrestling promotions in the U.S. for more than a quarter century.

Gagne’s legacy extends beyond his own wrestling and business career. He is perhaps the most successful trainer in wrestling history. The graduates of his school include Ric Flair, Bob Backlund, and Ricky Steamboat among other world champions.

Dynasty Wrestling Federation roster:

1st: Kurt Angle
2nd: Dusty Rhodes
3rd: David Von Erich
4th: Superstar Billy Graham
5th: Terry Gordy
6th: Iron Sheik
6th: Bobby Eaton
7th: Kevin Von Erich
7th: Mil Mascaras
8th: Tiger Mask (Satoru Sayama)
8th: Verne Gagne

Another 80s guy and then a 50s/60s/70s guy. My roster is very old school.

I've now got a 6:5 face:heel ratio and none of my faces are natural choices for heel turns. I don't think. Kevin Von Erich, Mil Mascaras, Tiger Mask, or Verne Gagne ever worked as a heel.

The face of the AWA is a steal at this point. I simply didn't have an interesting guy to put against him (Bockwinkel vs Gagne is wayyy overdone) so went elsewhere.

CM Punk went 12th
Warrior went 36th
Verne Gagne went 207th.

As Daniel Negreanu famously once said... REBUY!

Yeah we had Gagne at the top of our list for a long time, just never felt real comfortable taking him.

yea, he had some big matches against Undrafted at MSG for Vince Sr. They were also revolutionary for the fact that they were placed higher on the card then most jrs had been for New York

I think if this was an overall world draft, Satoru Sayama/Tiger Mask would've been picked much higher. He's probably one of the most influential wrestlers of the past 30 years and has had a massive influence on the world of MMA too in pioneering the work-shoot style and MMA itself

haha. I had considered Gagne, but I already had Brisco, and I can't really see either of them as a heel

Jack and Jerry Brisco had a great heel run as a tag team shortly before selling their shares of GCW to McMahon.

I have a theoretical question: Who exactly is watching our promotion (live, ppv, television, etc.)? Is it the fans of today or of some other decade?

I choose Eric Young and Ron Killings. Will do a more detailed write-up later as I'm not at my crib right now, but these guys strike me as workers who could be pretty damn good under Paul Heyman's writing/booking
