those schedules are just absolutely insane. I would've generally thought that they would've had a guy move through a territory a bit before then going onto another one

Jim Cornette can tell a story like no other, because there's a true passion he feels for pro wrestling and everything about it.
+1

I've listened to a bunch of him through this draft and been really impressed with his passion for the industry.

(still think he was a bit of a reach though )

I think he might be better than Heyman fwiw. I never really knew Cornette as more than the annoying manager with a tennis racket when I was a kid. Is he doing anything these days?

Also, a guy who was a huge main event star during the territorial days would have a lot less worldwide popularity than someone who's a star in the WWE today when it gets televised not only nationwide but internationally as well. If someone should get the same credit for main-eventing in WCCW as in WWE, then anyone who's over main eventing a ROH show should get the same credit as well.
Ok, I can agree with that. Basically I feel that when we start our federations, each guy will have the same popularity as he had in real life. However, that can change based upon his performance in our federation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that until Vince bought everyone out that wrestling was pretty much only popular in the South and some parts of the East Coast.

If you say that a dude is "as popular" now as he was then, does that mean that he draws the same number of fans that it took to sell out places in the South in the 70s? Or are you saying that he's going to be exactly proportionate and that he gets the same number of national/internationl PPV buys and sells out the places like Safeco Field like the top stars of the 90's did?
I think you're greatly underestimating how well known and popular wrestlers used to be. For example, I don't think anyone here would claim that Ric Flair would have any trouble with popularity, yet look at how wrestling perspective compares him to a few older guys:

Quote:
Mainstream Status: Mention Ric Flair to a non-wrestling fan you know. Then mention UNDRAFTED. Case closed. Comedians of the time such as Bob Hope and Jack Benny always had a UNDRAFTED joke or two in their monologue; the last time I heard a Ric Flair joke was never.
Quote:
BUDDY ROGERS

Mainstream Status: Featured in many magazine articles and appeared on quite a few television shows. Even made the pages of Mad Magazine in 1964, in a parody entitled “Angry Magazine.” Buddy shares a round-table forum with boxer Sonny Liston, labor leader Walter Reuther, and U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater. Highlight was a drawing of Rogers trapped in a leglock by Goldwater.

Quote:
RIC FLAIR

Mainstream Status: Practically none outside the Southeast. May run for governor or senator in North Carolina. We’ll see.

I'll admit that no older wrestler is on the level of Hogan/Andre/Rock/Austin when it comes to mainstream popularity, but I think that they were just as popular as a number of other 1st rounders and since they're being taken in the later rounds I think its incredible value.

Before Raw, the Score was showing a vintage match, Don Muraco vs Pedro Morales for the IC belt

I only saw the end, but I saw a figure 4, a back-breaker and a boston crab. Good times

I doubt there were any main eventers doing Swanton bombs, SSPs, Vertebreakers, 420 splashes or other dangerous high-risk moves. Didn't the outside floor around the ring have gym mats usually too, instead of nothing or little padding like now? And there definitely weren't TLC/ladder/Hell In The Cell/Elimination Chamber/Inferno matches then either (though obviously Street Fights/Cage matches were still fairly violent), but nevertheless, guys weren't taking epic bumps like 20 feet off the cage onto a truck/announce table/through the cage into the ring. So I think today's wrestlers have it a lot harder than some of these other guys that wrestled more technical styles 5-6 times a week that weren't constantly going through tables or off ladders.
true, but sports medicine and nutrition has also come a long way, which helps today's athletes recover much better and quicker.

quick question for everybody here...i can't think of this wrestler's name, and it's driving me insane.

i don't watch much wrestling anymore, but this was probably ~2-3 years ago. i believe he is a puerto rican wrestler, but i can't find his name on Wikipedia. i also believe that he had a kinda rat tail for a while.

i remember him being beat up by some massive girl (like Chyna-esque massive). then later, he was partners with her...she was always ringside for his matches--making distractions, etc. he was pretty slick on the mic, and he'd always be on his knees begging people not to beat his ass.

i coulda swore his name ended in "-to" like Carlito, but i can't find it ANYWHERE.

help please?? this is driving me INSANE...

With pick #1 in this round, the CWF selects:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnI7g...eature=related

Spoiler:
The owner of the greatest wrestling theme music... The Mountie Jacques Rougeau!

Spoiler:
"You want a finger? I'll give you a finger!" *Flicks off NYPD*

A one time Intercontinental Champion and three time Tag Team Champion in the WWF, I'm happy to add someone that not only can be successful in the ring, but adds some character to my promotion as well. Sure it's silly and over the top, but I always found his character to be very funny. There's also a natural feud to be had between him and the Big Boss Man.

The Mountie always gets his man. Even Hulk Hogan.

With pick #2 in this round I select:

Spoiler:
"Mr. USA" Tony Atlas

Beginning his career in 1975 in the NWA, Atlas was an immediate sensation. He was one of the first bodybuilders to get into the wrestling industry and helped to revolutionize the look of professional wrestling. His fast paced style and impressive physique became standard procedure for faces for years to come. As one of the original strongmen in wrestling, he managed to press slam 400+ lb opponents. He makes the Ultimate Warrior seem like Shane Helms.

He was a one time WWF Tag Team Champion and is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame. Today he still works of WWE as a manager on the ECW brand.

At this point in the draft I am very happy to grab a guy that can compete for my World Title, and at some point will probably win it. He also provides a strong face presence that might have been lacking before.

Classic Wrestling Federation:

Ric Flair
Harley Race
Nick Bockwinkel
Superfly Jimmy Snuka
Road Warrior Animal
Big Boss Man
Jesse "The Body" Ventura
Pedro Morales
Tully Blanchard
"The Mountie" Jacques Rougeau
"Mr. USA" Tony Atlas
