Bret is good. Most people don't know that he wore those sunglasses to hide his eyes when he first came up because he was nervous doing promos and didn't want to show it. It's amazing how bad he was booked in WCW.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Dynasty Wrestling Federation on the clock.

The DWF had a trade in place to move up to the #6 spot under certain circumstances. That fell through.

Our plan was to draft Bret Hart if he fell to #9. That has been nixed too.

So, the DWF is still looking to trade down.

Very upset I missed this.

Just based on the WWE thread and the mod forum, I really think Dynasty will do well here.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

somehow bret had slipped under my radar but is obviously a solid pick, probably missed him because i didn't watch a great deal of wwf after he started to push to main event level (and watched a fair bit of wcw as well then), and only got back into it after montreal, so he's one that i find hard to evaluate.

What is VKM doing for your organization? Is he going to make the decisions? Or wrestle?

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

flair is a reach because there were several people available at the time of pick, a number of which are still available, who have better records at carrying an organisation - particularly during periods when wrestling has been more popular

Booking + on-screen character + maybe the occasional match.

Flair was the #1 guy in Jim Crocket Promotions from 1977 to 1981. Then, he became NWA World Champion and sold out arenas across the country form 1981 until about 1985. Then, Crocket essentailly took over the NWA and Flair was the #1 guy in a national promotion form 1985 until 1991.

Then, he went to the WWF for the first time.

yea flair is not that good. His whole career he has looked old, Flair and the four horseman bored me to death.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I personally think the Bret was a reach. He isn't very exciting, he's isn't big, not a high-flyer, not a crazy masochist, not great on the mic, not charasmatic. He was big in one of the WWF's lowest points, and buried in WCW. He's supposedly a good real wrestler, but who cares? There are a several guys I can think of right now that I would have taken over him, but this is a bit of a lull point where a lot of guys are close. His career highlight is slugging Vince in Montreal (which is pretty cool, but). It's not terrible, but I can't see a great Promotion being built around him.

Bret just has that ice cold champ feel to me, I think he's a real solid headliner. it must be the shades.

There were times when wrestling was more popular than the 80s and a 4 year stretch in the 90s/early 2000s? Come on. If you are looking at pure talent both in and out of the ring, Flair is the best of all time.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Aww, you erased your post. Don't worry about it, not abrasive.

It's just, yeah as a bookie VKM is absoluety the best. Great! But I just don't know how valuable he is as a wrestler. Sure he's good/excellent with the mic but esstienally he's writing his own script anyways. He makes up his epic battles and drags them on and on. Considering that anyone could be such a 'bad guy' or 'heel' in wrestling terms with a decent charismatic approach, how valuable is that? I feel there are so much pure talent out there that VKM might be just a 'writer'. Not that there's anything wrong with it though.

I could be completely off here but hey! let's argue.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Bret's work as a heel leading the Hart Foundation against Stone Cold was great. Probably a few guys I'd take over Bret, but Bret was very good on the mic as a heel when he got to rip HBK and Austin.

Bret was my #10 guy fwiw. Def not a reach. The number of headliners is going to be dropping very very fast.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

In terms of mass appeal, particularly in merchandise etc, wrestling in the 70s/80s is nothing like post-1993. There are a number of wrestlers in the RAW era that we can point to and say - yeah these guys top billed the leading organisation for considerable duration and made several major new stars along the way. Flair is not one of them
