Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

UT didn't totally no-sell them, he just kicked out-sat up after them. I remember the second one looking particularly brutal.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Actually for a while there the DDT was THE heel-turn move du jour.

Love the Val Venis pick, though I am a huge VV mark.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Raven's Even-Flow DDT was the best DDT, and one of the best finishers in general

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

It was the mid-80s NWA which started ruining the DDT. Lots of people were using it but nobody was using it as a finisher.

I've always thought McMahon should give the DDT to one WWE wrestler as a finisher and prohibit all others from using it at all.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I think undrafted WWE female actually gives the most vicious looking DDTs now. They might have made her stop doing them after she almost broke someone's neck a couple months ago.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I got accidentally DDTed in gym class wrestling my freshman year of high school. Hit a double-leg takedown so hard I basically speared the guy down, but in the process damn near knocked myself unconscious.

Trying to figure if this is extremely epicly awesome or very gay.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

This was the same year I applied an STF on a kid. My gym teacher (who was the school's wrestling coach) had to scold me for that, but later told me he had to stop himself from laughing and cheering me on.

(I never had the guts to try a sharpshooter, although I really wanted to.)

IIRC he also was laid out for a long time and Roberts just sit in the corner mocking him and waited for him to get up.

I tried a sharpshooter but it was always difficult because the victim kept thinking I was going to stomp his nuts.

It drives me nuts these days how NOBODY applies the Sharpshooter right. If you don't hold the guy's knees up and actually sit back on it, it looks so Goddamn ******ed.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

That reminds me, I also did the Demolition tag team move of both guys hitting a bunch of axehandles to the victims back while he's on all fours. Of course it was just me doing them, but I didn't care. I also was the master at the crossface chicken-wing.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Years ago when HHH was Paul Levesque in WCW, he did an inverted Indian deathlock that looked sweet. I figured out how to do it and applied it on my brother (my poor brother was my wrestling holds guinea-pig for years). He said the only move I ever did to him that hurt worse was the figure four (and yes, the fig-4 when done right is NASTY).

I was about to say that that shouldn't be possible, but then I'm a huge undrafted mark

Round 6 Pick 138 and 139:

Johnny Valentine

from wrestlingperspective.com:

Quote:
One of the toughest wrestlers ever to don a pair of trunks, he was just as tough out of the ring. Loved to work a stiff style, “make each punch and kick count” was his motto. Wherever he went he became a major draw and fan favorite, whether wearing the white hat or the black, in large part due to his ring work. In 1975, he broke his back in a plane crash that ended his career at the age of 47. If not for the accident, his career easily would have lasted another 15 years. Died in 2001 after re-fracturing his back and damaging his colon.
from wiki:

Quote:
Johnny Valentine (born John Theodore Wisniski,[3] September 22, 1928–April 24, 2001) was a professional wrestler with a career spanning almost three decades. He has been inducted into four halls of fame for his achievements in wrestling. Wisniski is the father of professional wrestler Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.

He held numerous world champion and regional titles, including the NWA United States Championship and the World Heavyweight title. He had long running rivalries with REST OF THE SENTENCE REMOVED DUE TO NAMING A BUNCH OF UNDRAFTEDS. He alternated between being a villain and a hero (babyface) during the Golden Era in the 1940s through 1960s of wrestling
Quote:
Valentine has been recognized for his wrestling career by several sources. Shortly after his death, he was named the 2001 recipient of Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Stanley Weston Award, a recognition given for lifetime achievement in professional wrestling. He has also been inducted into several halls of fame. He was a member of the inaugural class of inductees to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame in 1996.[17] He is also a member of the Stampede Wrestling Hall of Fame.[18] In 2006, he was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame,[19] and he joined the St. Louis Wrestling Hall of Fame the following year.

Dory Funk Jr

I think this should tell you all you need to know about Funk Jr:

1973 PWI Match of the year(with Harley Race)
1974 PWI Match of the year(with Jack Brisco)

Kinda funny that Race went over 100 picks ago and Brisco went over 50 picks ago, yet Funk Jr. is still available.

I know that older wrestlers aren't as well known to most of us in this draft, but both of these men were stars as evidenced by their high rankings in THE TOP 100 PRO WRESTLERS OF ALL TIME by Molinaro, Meltzer, and Marek. Dory Funk Jr. was ranked #26 and Johnny Valentine was ranked #32. At this point in the draft, I think they are both great value, and they fit my roster well as absolutely everyone on my roster is capable of having phenomenal matches. To be honest, I'm not sure how great either of them were on the mic(maybe someone more familiar with older wrestling can chime in). But I think that I can get some good managers to work with a few of my wrestlers who don't have excellent mic skills, so I'll be ok there.

Roster so far:

Mick Foley
Vader
Bruiser Brody
Bam Bam Bigelow
The Great Muta
Johnny Valentine
Dory Funk Jr.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

A few things.

Noze: FU for taking the exact two guys I was taking next round.

All: The DDT is, was, and always will be the greatest finishing move ever.

What's a jobber?

I'm sad we're more than half done.

The Rock was the worst of all time at the sharpshooter. You shouldn't be able to let the other guy crawl to the ropes while in that hold.
