Can someone fill me in on why X-Pac is so hated? I stopped watching wrestling for a while starting in early 2001, but I remember always liking him

This. It's probably my favorite wrestling theme of all-time. Although honestly I like the Chuck/Billy theme too which makes it not quite so bad. I always liked Billy Gunn a lot though, I was definitely taking him if he dropped to me in the 6th round.

It's amazing how we can have such similar views about Flair and such different views about Scott Hall ("Ramon").

Flair was the undisputed and obvious top man in a top promotion for basically a solid decade (you can't say this about Rock or Austin; and the worst pick in the whole draft is taking HBK when Flair was still available-HBK was never even clearly the top wrestler in his promotion, and when HBK was at his peak the WWE was not very popular)-he had the best promos at the time, he was in many of the best matches of all time, and was absolutely amazing at putting over another wrestler-just throw anybody in a feud with Flair, and he would get way over-from either the people who hated flair for his outlandish arrogance and bragging about his wealth and fame, or from those who just loved Flair, and instantly would want to watch any match that one of his enemies was in, hoping the enemy would lose. Ric Flair probably made more superstars than Austin, Rock, and HBK combined, a huge asset to have in your promotion. With a snap of the finger Flair could switch from being top heel to top face (e.g. feud with Funk right after Steamboat, retirement storyling with Vader, etc.). If anything, I think you underrated Flair; if Flair doesn't get a 10 in charisma or drawing power, who does?

I can't fathom how you could give Scott Hall a 3 for drawing power, especially given the people you gave much higher scores to. When Hall returned to TNA nearly a decade after his prime, the crowd went crazy for a long time. When he showed up in ECW, the crowd went crazy. Most importantly, he was the #2 mic guy and worker in the NWO, the prime cause of WCW going from rating around 3 to ratings around 7; from losing every week to the WWF to beaten them every week for almost 2 years straight. Hall had been a heel for his entire time in WCW, yet when he unexpectedly accompanied Kevin Nash to the ring in a match against Hogan, the crowd went crazy. Like Flair, either you love Hall, or you love to hate Hall-this is what you want; the last thing you want is fans being apathetic to a guy, as they won't be interested in his matches or segments unless they have strong feelings about him. On the mic, Hall had something new and golden nearly every promo from 96-98, and as Ramon decided on and followed flawlessly his own brilliant gimmick. The catch phrases he used were also huge, among the most popular ever (Hey Yo still gets huge responses to this day; the Nwo catch phrases he popularized were huge at the time); the only wrestlers who clearly are ahead of him in the ability to craft and popularize catch phrases are Hogan, Rock and Austin. You may have not been a fan; but he always had the vast majority of the audience at full attention when he was on the mic. This was at a time when Bischoff was letting wrestlers say whatever they wanted; Hall didn't even need a writer. His promos during WCW were just crazy good; and contained 'attitude' before Mcmahon allowed attitude in WWE.

Here are some links to his popularity, which demonstrate how pleased fans were to have this guy around in their promotion:

Check out 6:20 in this vid:

I also disagree with you on Hall in terms of longevity. He wrestled for more or less 22 years straight, was on and off for a few years, and has wrestled the past couple of years straight. That has to be a 8-9.

His in ring work I have to go with something near your ranking; at his best he was a clear 10, able to put up a 4-5 star match against an opponent his size, much smaller, or much larger, which only a handful of wrestlers have ever been able to do. However, he often wasn't at his best; lackadaisical during matches and/or intoxicated and/or recovering from intoxication.

So, regardless of where Ramon ranks, for Scott Hall in total I think you have:

DRAWING POWER: 9
IN-RING WORK: 7
MIC SKILLS: 9
CHARISMA: 9
LONGEVITY: 9

The real issues with Hall aren't things you have included in your rankings; he often didn't obey ownership and struggled with significant off-camera issues. Just going by your criteria Hall was an absurdly good value pick at the slot he was selected.

Wow moorobot, thanks for putting so much thought/effort into standing up for my boy Scott Hall......I most agree with your statement regarding his longevity, he wrestled in three different decades, a 6 in that category for him is way off

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Other than that, my main biggest issue with antidan's rankings is his mic skills rankings. It seems that he don't give guys enough credit for A) Crazy but entertaining promos (you give warrior a 2 on mic skills, but I'd rather watch a Warrior promo than the majority of the other guys listed promos) or B) Promos that kids like or that get a guy over as a face-after Steamboat and Sting's promos in the 80s and early 90s, I always thought-how can a good guy not like this guy? Sting and Steamboat had decent promos for their overall persona.

I don't see how one can give Roberts a 9 and Race a 4. Both seemed to have the same intended effect in their prime years promos (convince you that the guy is one tough, tenacious, methodical SOB) and I thought Race was much better at doing so. Your vision may be blurred by remembering Race mostly for his King Harley Race blondie look at the end of his career.

Kind of glad you selected Ultimo (even though I wanted him), because now I can post this awesome match between him and Rey Mysterio I was watching earlier today from prime WCW days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTqqJvM8cqA

Honestly, Ultimo is a guy who wouldn't look out of place in matches against anybody from the first round, he is for sure a steal in the 5th round
