chicken or the egg scenario imo...and no one wins in this argument.

...But I will make this comparison, just to put things into perspective:

Wayne Gretzky is the greatest hockey player of all time, ainec. He was taken first overall in the Hockey Draft, and it was never questioned. There have been so many hockey players since (Mario Lemieux to name one) who were more skilled in every facet of the game than Wayne...Wayne played on an insanely deep and talented Oilers team, and also played in the highest scoring era on NHL history....yet, despite all this, he is still the greatest....as is Hogan.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

FWIW, if Hogan had fell to me at 10 I would have drafted him, but I would have drafted him as Hollywood Hogan....During the 80's the American Hero stuff was cool, but now I think it's just cheesy, I always thought Hogan was an underrated heel...he had perhaps the best heel turn in wrestling history IMO

Yeah, but this formula made him like the biggest thing ever in wrestling, and put the WWF over for what, like 15 years? Throw in the WCW years, and he's been massive. It doesn't really matter what is done with him now, as long as there is at least one big name to be his foil. And Hogan can be a face or a heel, so the options are wide open.

Hogan rarely lost, but he did lose occasionally. Most superstars didn't lose a whole lot, except to other big names.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Even though I've been trashing him, I know that Hogan is a high pick, and that he's not the most popular guy for no reason. I'd just prefer someone who I think is more talented and is imo a better centerpiece to a promotion. I don't really care about how the wrestlers were once perceived since that all goes out the window when we have a completely new promotion from scratch.

I'm very interested to see who Lurchy felt was worth trading up for. I think I have a guess.

There's one guy I have as clear cut above the rest... but I doubt he's going. Two or three others that wouldn't surprise me.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I think Hogan's the clear #1 in this. While Rock and Austin were just as big as Hogan at their peak, Hogan was the only wrestler to completely carry a promotion both as a face and a heel. nWo doesn't work without Hollywood, brotha.

Austin and Rock were both great as heels too, but neither had the second act that Hogan did.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Probably a really good pick. I think there are a few top end wrestlers, and then a deeper 2nd tier. I don't know that there's another Vince out there.

Why does that matter? It doesn't change the fact that 10 years into our hypothetical, the person who drafted The Rock will have to be without their #1 pick, whereas the person who drafted Hogan will continue to get all that Hogan brings for 21 more years.

Hogan was arguably the most over face of all time and the most hated heel of all time. LOL@ saying that all he has going for him is longevity.

Tonight, you join the Vincent Kennedy McMahon, Kiss My Ass club!

I like the pick, VKM is hilarious as an on-screen character, not to mention all the other stuff

Seriously, everyone kept saying Hogan made the WWF, the Rock and Austin made WWF, blah blah blah... Vince is the guy who made Hogan, the Rock, and Austin what they are. The guy's a genius. He's by far the most valuable guy in the draft.

Yeah I didn't know we were drafting behind the scenes type people. Seems to open up a whole can of worms.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I was considering Vince for like round 3. There's arguments for him, but it seems like people will be way too hot or cold on him for a first round pick when there are dudes left that are guaranteed awesome. Still, interesting.

I'm going back and forth between two different guys. Was kind of hoping you would take one of them but oh well, writeup coming soon when I decide.

Bingo. Nail on the coffin.

Vince could take mediocre wrestlers and mic'ers and turn them into stars.

Also, like said, given he CAN wrestle, be part of a storyline, commentate, etc, he is a full package. He should of been the number one pick. The draft is deep enough to be able to suffer without Hogan or The Rock or Austin in order to have Vince.
