Hah, missed this entirely. Only bothered with wrestling for about a year and half (2000-01) but will keep tabs on the thread, brings back some old memories.

I'm up to 125 names in my ranking... wonder how long/if they all last.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Yea Flair is awesome and I was really picking between him and Michaels. Probably just a case of recency bias cause even though Flair has been the man forever, I haven't really been all that into him since I started getting into wrestling. He really didn't do much when he came back to WCW, except for that sweet storyline where they put him in a mental institution. Then when he came back to the WWF they failed pretty hard on the co-owners with Vince story when it could have been pretty awesome. After that he was HHH's bag boy for a long time before having a nice sendoff.

The old youtube stuff from the 80s looks way sicker than anything he's done for the past decade.

i'd take flair over everyone other than hogan so far

i was thinking that there was a fairly clear BPA, not so sure now, couple of others spring to mind that are arguably better

If you're posting intro videos, don't put the youtube link in the spoiler. I want the pick revealed Vince style.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

I think iggymcfly made a great point earlier that I want to reiterate. While guys like Austin and Hogan got pushed to the moon and many could have been successful given the same storylines and booking, The Rock basically made himself into the most popular guy in WWE with his own awesomeness. He would have been a top guy in basically any theoretical situation imo.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

IMO Austin made himself what he was as well....he was booked to be a heel, but the promos he came up with and the character's attitude were so awesome people started cheering him. The 1996 King of the Ring, where Austin made his first 3:16 reference, was supposed to be won by HHH, but they switched it to Austin winning because his mic skills were off the charts and they saw the huge potential in the character....after he became champ he was booked like Superman -though not at the same level as Hogan/Cena - I don't think anyone could have pulled off the McMahon feud near as well as Austin did....

I disagree on the hogan rock austin stuff. They all failed before they got the gimmick they had.

I'm heading back to work, and FlyingRat has school/work until sometime tonight, too.

I'll try to check in, but doubt I'll be able to.

Our pick will definitely be made sometime tonight around 8 or 9 ET.

You can hate Hogan all you want...but he is clear #1. Also, this is not a good start to the draft...it seems like people are going to be taking their "favorite" wrestlers instead of the best ones...and thats never a good sign for any draft.

(remember LuckyLloyd in the Hollywood Draft??)

Commisioner doing an A+ job imo. and that has nothing to do with Pudge or anyone else trying to join in later...but this is definitly the best way to keep the draft moving.

Re: Professional Wrestling Promotion Draft

Hogan is immortal because he came at the right place at the right time and got the most massive push ever. The Rock is way more talented, as are hundreds of other wrestlers. Hogan also is a terrible guy to start a company around since a ton of his success is built on squashing and killing the momentum of other guys in your company.
