Muta is a good pick. He competes mostly as Keiji Kutoh now and won the IWGP Championship most recently in 2008. The second guy to hold the NJPW and the AJPW Championships at the same time.

90's Muta: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=truk7KTrDbg
One of the weirdest matches ever, modern Great Muta vs Bob Sapp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Wq0YdbHlxo

you gotta LOL at Sapp's entrance there

I mean we obviously don't have enough people to fill out a federation. I don't think that's even open for debate. Should cruisers be devalued because "they won't have enough people to feud with"? And I guess taking a tag team should be completely out of the question right? I mean thinking that after the 15 people are done, there's going to be no one else around period is a really silly way to approach this IMO.

And FWIW, yes I do plan on having a women's division. Trish will be involved in some storylines with the men as well, but I'm certainly going to take at least one more woman before the draft is over.

As for the women don't draw on PPV argument, I agree and that would be a great argument...... if I'd taken her in the 3rd round. By the 5th round, we've already taken the major draws and are just filling out the roster with people who can entertain. And Trish is still ahead of a lot of the people taken so far in that while she won't bring in PPV buys, she will at least sell a lot of merchandise and make a significant impact on TV ratings. I'd say in terms of ability to draw money, Trish is well ahead of Dean Malenko, Lance Storm, William Regal, and Juventud Guerrerra just to name a few that were picked a full round ahead of her.

Muta was the other guy we were talking about earlier with regards to big name Japanese talent with a decent level of U.S. exposure success.

Are we not allowed to name names? Lots of old school guys I loved who a search reveals haven't been drafted.

We aren't, but I think that allows for a cleaner thread and a more focused discussion of who was most recently picked.

Plus, it 'forces' people to reach into their own memory banks to formulate their teams.

just as long as heyman never gets anywhere near the the money side of things, he's a genius with matchups and creating stars

i've been involved in two drafts before this, and there was never that assumption at all

I don't think that cruisers and tag team guys should be devalued beceause they can wrestle as singles in the case of tag guys, and in teh case of cruisers, they have been high on cards that have done good business before

I think that even in this round, we do have to look at people who draw, because they are still available, and some of the picks have proved that. And, if one isn't going for an immeadiate draw, I think this is a good place to find guys that you can build up over the course of 5 or so years to being a ME level guy

I also think that people ITT are grossly over rating how much added value merchandise sales are. In WON when I subscribed, meltzer would give merchandise figures from house shows as well as RAWs, Nitros, Smackdowns, etc and in big shows, the WWF would get around 80-100K worth of merchandise, which is a whole lot, but, most of the stuff that was bought was Austin, Foley, Rock, et al stuff, not really all too much Trish stuff. In fact, I remember when I went to MSG and Continental Airlines Arena for house shows and to a RAW back in 01, there wasn't much Trish stuff available to buy. Tons of Rock shirts, Austin, HHH, etc. but I really don't remember there being all that much merchandise that involved the women's division

Ratings are important, but someone just briefly tuning into a Trish match is not gonna make a difference in your promotion's bottom line. You aren't gonna get that much extra add revenue because of it, and you aren't gonna get ad revenue from that many newer ad sources. Obviously, if a match with her consistently pops a 8.0 rating and your show is drawing a 1.5-2, then yes, that's major, but how likely is that to really happen?

My problem with the Heyman pick is I consider him to be really good at helping hide guy's weaknesses and putting people over as a manager for the guys who aren't great on the mic. All 4 guys on team Shark don't suffer from #1 and one might be in column #2. I wanted Heyman later on in case I went overboard on crappy mic guys.

Yeah this is true, but we're still only around halfway through the draft. Having Heyman gives him a lot of options for later picks.

this is true. It could allow for a couple of reaches, or guys that could fit into his view of wrestling. The only problem for him would be the first two picks for sharktank, especially the second pick. Hall didn't fare too well in his extremely brief ECW run, especially after no-showing a match

Heyman was the last of the 4 I wanted. Franchise, Steiner, Pillman, Heyman.

Also I was a HUGE Muta Fan.... GREAT pick there IMO

I think that having an entertaining show is underrated in terms of drawing money. If people like Trish's segments, their more likely to tune into the show the next week whether she's there or not and grow to like the other wrestlers. If she puts on a good match in the middle of the PPV, people are more likely to leave with a positive impression of the card and order another PPV. I don't think you can go wrong with a popular, entertaining wrestler that consistently performs well.

Also, looking around a live event at the T-shirts for sale is a really bad way to judge how much merchandise Trish sells. Obviously, T-shirts are going to be the biggest seller there and they'll mostly be more the main event types. However, with the diva videos, posters, etc. included, I guarantee that Trish was one of the Top 5 merchandise sellers during her time in the WWE.

1. I can't count the amount of times that WCW had very good to great matches in the positions that trish would occupy that were utterly destroyed by the main event. WWF did the same thing when she was on early card matches defending teh women's belt. There was a fair amount of times where a PPV felt wasted when she had a solid 2 1/2*-3* match because of the semi-main and the main event sucking or having something ridiculously stupid happen

2. There's probably a way to find this out, and I think you are over estimating how much trish sold. She was up against the Rock, HHH, HBK, Jericho, Austin, Mysterio, Eddie, Undertaker, Hogan, etc. I would be massively shocked if she was in the top 5, and would be surprised if she was in the top 10 of merchandise sellers in her 6 years of being in the WWf/E(and that is a massive problem too, she was only in the biz for 6 years)

The Great Muta was somebody I've been considering in the past couple rounds. He was my second choice behind my 5th round pick (Terry Gordy).

I really like Muta's entrance in this match against Hulk Hogan.

With our 5th pick, ajohnson and I select:

Theme - N/A

Spoiler:

Kerry Von Erich

With our fifth round pick, our federation is drafting Kerry Von Erich. Part of the infamous Von Erich family, it became clear as more research took place that Kerry Von Erich was simply too much value to pass up.

Kerry's brother David went in round 3 and quite honestly, our federation feels like it has the superior Von Erich brother. Unlike David, Kerry was an active professional wrestler for 13 years and won numerous championships, including defeating Ric Flair in front of 45,000 people at Texas Memorial Stadium in 1984 which speaks a bit to his drawing power.

Unfortunately, Kerry battled substance abuse problems for much of his career and life but he remained a charasmatic star with good in-ring ability for much of his career. He even wrestled the latter half of his career with only one foot as he had to have his right foot amputated and wrestled with a prosthetic from 1986 until his death in 1993.

Von Erich also had a 3 year run in the WWF which saw him win the IC title once. In addition, Von Erich was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2009.

- PWI's Most Popular Wrestler in 1984
- Wrestled in the Match of the Year in 1984 per PWI and Wrestling Observer Newsletter (two separate matches)
- Named the 24th best singles wrestler in the PWI Years
