Steamboat is a great pick. Possibly the best worker there ever was (US knowledge only over here) and was still better than the majority of the wwe roster when he came back recently.

steamboat is imo, the most underrated wrestler in history. the man had 3 5star matches in a 1 year period. he was in the match of the year twice. but he was only world champion once. that is a travisty to me.
My favourite wrestler as a kid. I didn't think/know that anyone else held him in very high regard.

lol @ people hating on the cm punk pick (especially the people who dont even watch wrestling these days) but not on RVD. that was the worst pick so far imo, and im not sure its even close.

Yeah, I definitely think there's a huge disconnect here between the way Cena's presented in WWE and what he could be if he was a main event star that was booked intelligently. I mean I actually stopped watching WWE altogether largely because of Cena so I can sympathize with all the people saying he sucks in the ring/isn't that good on the mic, etc., because it's all true in modern-day WWE given the way he's booked.

I think we've seen enough of him from the years before he got locked into that awful character though to see that he definitely has the potential to be a transcendent upper-level star that's a huge asset to any promotion.

ftr, he does have good mic skills. not great, but i saw him(yea, in roh) in the middle of a feud with cm punk. the two of them had some very good verbal exchanges.

btw, my back up pick was another criminally under rated wrestler. unfortunatly, i wont be picking him now, since it does not make sence for my roster.

but i would not have been disappointed with him.

I still don't really get why the Punk pick got so much hate. He is already like the #1 reason to watch WWE right now and has a huge future in the company. And there's enough smarks in this that I don't think he would have (or should have) fallen into the second round.

I am beyond disappointed that WWE is doing nothing with Punk right now. I think they drastically need him in a feature role on Smackdown. He is gold on the mic and he/Jericho are the only reasons to watch WWE right now (since they other two I enjoy are nowhere to be found...one is on the DL, other is working for the red-headed stepchild of the WWE)

Cena isn't one of the biggest stars ever. Making that statement shows blinders being on. I have zero doubt that when his career is over and when people reflect on it, he won't be considered in the top tier of all time greats. That list will include guys who aren't the best workers, but bring more then Cena does

As far as fans booing him, whether they like him or not he still has the ability to evoke emotion out of people, and those people are paying money to see him. They care about him one way or another. If he walks out to the ring and everyone is on their feet spewing venom at him that's a good thing. The worst thing that can happen to a wrestler is when they come out and fans just sit on their asses and don't care about you one way or another.
Cena was shoved down our throats from the begining. Once Vince fully decided to go with him, he got the IC belt fairly fast and moved his way up the card in a lightning manner.

Fans were booing him on his first reign because they didn't want to see him with the belt, and he was being pushed as a face. Remember all of the Cena Sucks chants from the crowd, that was because they saw through his being the champ. The emotion was because they hated who Vince was shoving down our throats. Sure, its heat, but its not the good kind of negative heat. Honestly, if he hadn't gotten injured shortly after his first reign came to an end, and he would've gotten the belt back like planned, I could've imagined a WCW-like problem on Vince's hands.

Just caught up on the whole thread I'll post my quick cliff notes

Great Picks
Jericho: He's just awesome, incredibly versatile, great on the mic, can be face or heel etc.
Cena: He's a huge draw, has been the biggest name in the WWE for years. Kids all around America wear clothes with his name on it.
Andre the Giant: Best pick of the draft should have been top 5. He's such a legend, my mother knows who Andre the Giant is, he was bigger than wrestling.
Bruno Sammartino: Sick value, never saw him wrestle but from everything I've heard about him it seems great.

Bad Picks
CM Punk: Simply an awful pick, you could have taken him in the second round. There is one current WWE star who is much better on the mic, and probably only a little worse in the ring who is still avaible. I think Punk has been great as a heel lately but 12th overall is crazy.
Nash/Diesel: There are better big men.He was never that good, there are a lot of undrafted wrestlers who really are not that different from him. If you wanted a big man Andre is so much better.
RVD: He's good and I like him but he's simply way too high (no pun intended.) Lots of better guys available.

Everything else ranges from like 6-8/10.

Also 100% down to be a judge if possible.

I still think that when you're drafting the guy that you're planning on making your top face, the most important thing is to have someone that can singlehandedly get himself over and draw in the fans on his own. Despite never getting the real big push in WWF/WWE, RVD was nuclear-level over in late 2002 even moreso than guys like HHH/Jericho/Angle at their peaks. He was honestly almost exactly as popular as The Rock at that time period.

Then, even after a 3 year depush, he was again incredibly over when he finally got the belt and would have been a huge success as champion if not for the ******ed weed/pills incident. I just don't think there was another guy like that left in the field when I drafted RVD except for Cena who I initially passed on just because I can't stand him and because I think RVD's a little more talented in the ring.

BTW, like the Steamboat pick a lot. He was one of the older guys that I thought would work really well and I would have considered him strongly if Cena hadn't slipped so far or even if I hadn't already taken a high-flying wrestler that does a little better as a face with my 1st-round pick.

Also, without thinking much about it, I can't believe that Cena is the 9th biggest money maker in the sport of pro wrestling. Not even close.

Is there other hate for Benoit?

He's CANADIAN bro!

But seriously, but Benoit was always a crowd pleasing performer. Remember when EVERYONE would count along like ONE, TWO, THREE of his triple suplexs? Diving headbutts? Putting his body in harms way? I mean, I'll give you that Benoit has maybe below-average mic skills but his entertainment and wrestling/grappling/mat was excellent. He was that gritty guy who talked with his actions. I'm guessing writeup for this one is needed but he was one of my favourite wrestlers.

And he's going to kill his family in this?!?!?!?

i wouldent have been able to get him in the 2nd round. people have allready said that.

my plan all along was to trade down in the 1st round, which moved me up to a spot where i can get steamboat in the 2nd round. the matches that these 2 would blow the roof off any arena you would put them in.

I liked Benoit too, but he never made money so it's hard to justify him this early. I'm assuming he kills his family for the same reason people assume The Rock leaves for a movie career etc.
