Looks like Wrane and I will share GM duties, until Wrane gets tired of me and fires me in round 4. That said, I'm going to bed.

Anyway, as for Foley, he's awesome. I'm not denying that. But there are definitely a bunch of guys (Macho Man being one) that are better at that spot. My criticism of the pick isn't really a criticism of Foley. It's just that there are better guys to take there, imo of course.

LOL "any diehard wrestling fans". I don't follow anymore, but I was "diehard" for a long time. Again, I understand why you took Punk and why you like him and whatever, but it's an awful pick considering the criteria of the draft, his availability, etc.

I watched Wrestlemania 6(Hogan vs Warrior) live...first PPV I ever saw live. I had Hogan and Savage wrestling buddies when I was little. I used to get the Royal Rumble as a XMas present each year. I can vividly remember watching Earthquake attack Hogan, Undertaker debut at the Survivor Series, Earthquake squashing Jake's snake, and a ton of other stuff from back then. I was most definitely into wrestling then.

As for Foley vs Macho, we'll just agree to disagree. Imo Macho worked well for a 1980s audience, but Foley works much better for a 2009 audience.

I just wonder about what some of the others have said. It seems like YOU are the owner/booker for your federation, so what do you need Vince for? Maybe as a counterpoint, maybe you'll cede all booking power to him or something? I don't know, if he isn't 100% running things, I just don't see the value.

ldo. Bret is from Calgary, and that happened in Montreal, which he probably doesn't even consider to be part of Canada. Obviously wasn't a factor...

Obviously, but a large part of that is because he's working in the current era (or close enough to it). Macho Man seems like one of the few old-timers who would have translated very well to the current era, iyam.

This is like the 10th time someone has made this point, and its frustrating because dnkyhunter has already replied to it:

All of dnkyhunter's picks will be "guys that you could've gotten in the last round", so he had to start somewhere. Its pretty clear that he isn't going after guys that most of us are.

Can the people not in the draft please stop naming undrafteds? Its one thing to mention an undrafted when discussing a great match that a drafted wrestler had, but there have been several posts by people not in this draft basically saying "I think someone should take ______ soon"....come on, thats totally against the spirit of the draft!

I'm not sure. Somewhere around when he was picked. I was a little down on HHH because he got such a ******edly huge push for a while. He was way better in the early DX years than he was as the game.

I can't get away from this thread.

I cringe every time someone calls Taker/Foley HIAC a great match. It wasn't. It was a Talladega car crash. It was so horrific, you went, "Holy ****!" and then couldn't turn away. Memorable? Abso-****ing-lutely. Great match, negative. Foley/HHH at the 2000 Royal Rumble was a great match.

(My all-time favorite Foley match I don't want to mention yet.)

I think VKM is a tough pick to assess properly until we see who you pick up #2

Also very interested to see where some of the Vince equivalents go, one in particular.

Angle is horribly overrated, probably the second worst pick of the draft. I guess I never really liked the gimmick, he can do a lot of things well but there's people left that can do a lot of things better, and plenty of people that can work a lot better match, or work the mike a lot better.

HHH was BPA. Similarly Foley.

CM Punk is the worst pick obv and completely nullifies post #303 (that guy still on the board by the way).

Savage probably a slight reach. Sting about right. Don't like the RVD pick but there's something to work with there.

I think the Angle pick was legit. He's so entertaining to watch. Very fluid with a good offense. Pretty good mic skills.

Has some issues outside of the ring that are a determent, but otherwise, I'd have taken him there or maybe a few picks earlier.

angle rocks the mic imo (back in the day anyway, dont follow whats goin on now)

The thing about the Vince pick is I think there's two ways to look at. We can say it's like you're the owner of a baseball team, and this draft is picking everyone in our organization, from the players (wrestlers) to the coaches (the old school WWF managers ala Mr Fuji, sorry to put an undrafted person in there but I think you guys should be able to find 210 more valuable guys than Mr Fuji) to the general manager (the actual heads of the different wrestling companies, obviously if Vince was taken 6th, I expect others to be taken eventually). If you look at it that way, I think Vince is number 1. Vince is more responsible for wrestling success than anyone, considering he's been doing it his whole life, and I think it's not close.

But the other way to look at it is if it was only on screen talent, you take 10 people, because really WE are the ones supposed to be running the company, so what's the fun in taking someone else to run it, leaving us with 9 wrestlers? But I do think that the Mr. McMahon character, purely as an on screen character, is probably STILL in the top 10, just because he's had so many sick feuds with Austin, had some great matches, been involved in all kinds of crazy ****

I think Angle was fine right where he went, maybe after HHH.
There are quite a few I would have definitely taken over RVD and obviously Punk. Everyone else being gone by now is fine imo.

While McMahon was nowhere close to an actual wrestler, the guy dominated the most popular storylines for a solid five-year span, which happened to be wrestling's most popular time ever. If we're only going to count his on-screen stuff, he is still one of the most memorable characters ever, and had some absolutely amazing heat at the peak of his stuff w/ Austin (which you've noted).

I'm curious to what the results would be in a recognition test by common people. Obviously Hogan, Austin, Rock, Flair and Savage would be way way way up there, but I think Vince wouldn't be far behind, at least in the US. Maybe I'm even overestimating Savage there.

I actually think you might be overestimating the Nature Boy. I've never really thought that people really knew him outside the wrestling world. Of those guys I would rank them right now Rock, Hogan, Austin, Vince, Savage, Flair. I think I'd put Taker ahead of Savage, and HHH ahead of Flair, but that's just my opinion
