Wow, face melted and definitely not who I expected to go #1.

Good writeup I'd have put in the fact that he's been retired for at least 4-5 years now and the crowd still yells "WHAT" during promos.

Shoulda quoted the post I was referring to where the guy attributed Hogan's success to Vince.

Austin's HOF Speech

Pretty hard to bash a pick that gives this guy to your organization.

Not Austin's fault he's too iconic for his own good.

If they were popular in 1972, it is assumed that they will be just as popular now.

I'm reading this as it's 2009 and all our picks are magically returned to their prime age, with all prior knowledge about them in the public intact.

A big part of this is nostalgia for me, and I'm not gonna be thinking about which guys to pick to fit the internet "smark" era where people who make inside references to stupid crap Vince Russo booked 10 years ago are considered kings of comedy.

Austin was also the shiznit during his short stint in ECW when he used to bash Bischoff and WCW non-stop, pure gold

Yeah I agree with this. I think it's pretty silly to argue that Hogan isn't going to become a huge, huge star in this format.

This part isn't true though. You're just to assume that they will become just as popular through their own merit.

I'm trying to make a list to figure out how many elite guys there are in the first round. I feel pretty confident I'll be able to get one at 14. This draft is deep.

Yea, I meant more that we know what their entire career up to this point looks like and can make arguments based on that, not that our hypothetical fans know that Hogan will turn heel in 15 years and then later try to hookup with chicks that look like his daughter while his son turns people into vegetables in his spare time.

I did this in my first draft too and it almost backfired in my face. Good luck in sweating out the next five picks.
