Froome not going to wait for the fallers?

No idea the politics of it all but seems fair after they waited on Froome's new bike a half hour ago.

German commentator gonna German commentator. Showing his concern for the safety of the riders and blaming UCI and Le Tour for too steep downhills.

If you want mountain stages, you're going to have downhills. The riders know what they're getting in to. Deal with it.

Don't think he will even know there are fallers tbh it's a different scenario.

The LÖL italian attacked the very second he saw Froome raise his hand to indicate technical difficulties.

Re: Pro Cycling 2017 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

great for uran there (assuming he got it). had to deal with that mechanical issue at the worst possible time. wouldn't have felt right for barguil to win it even though he was out front forever. he wasn't doing any work the last 10km.

How do you win a stage with two gears. Amazing.

Amazing stage. Even without the photo finish between Tommy Two Gears and the Frenchie who's been in the breakaway for 2 days solid.

The unspoken rules are you don't attack if someone important has a mechanical but you also don't have to slow down and wait for them if the race is on

Re: Pro Cycling 2017 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

Not to mention that if someone crashes at 50 kph or whatever it was you don't even know if they are still in the race. It's nothing like changing a bike.

Still, there are grey areas. Didn't Contador make 30 odd seconds on A Schleck once after Schleck's chain fell off, and go on to win the Tour by that exact margin (though I'm losing track of whether he kept that win with doping results etc). The riders seemed roughly 50:50 on whether that opportunism was appropriate.

Cycling would be much better if leaders were attacked when they have mechanicals

ya I think it would be better than the wishy washy way that it is done. and, iir, back in the 80s and 90s riders were much more liberal with taking advantage of such opportunities.

Attacking on a mechanical is different from attacking on a crash. A crashed rider can take anywhere from 20 seconds to minutes (or never, in the case of Valverde, Cav, Porte) to get back.

Yes but I think Schleck was given that tour win retroactively.

Re: Pro Cycling 2017 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

Didn't realize that Contador's gap was the exact same as his margin of victory. But that's true.

He came into stage 15 31 seconds behind Schleck.

He came out of the stage 8 seconds ahead of Schleck and finished the last stage 39 seconds ahead.
