The decision seemed rushed. Perhaps it needs review. Riders have got a relegation in similar past incidents. Also there were the actions of the stage winner which apparently go unpunished.

well the first rule of being a sporting official is that you must be incredibly results oriented in all decisions

i'm also really confused why they assess a 30 second and 50 pt penalty, then DQ him like 2 hours later. like wtf are you guys doing? why not just make a decision once.

I'm so tilted. If Sagan was French, it would have been Cav with a penalty for bumping into him from behind.

Seriously though, it was a race accident where Sagan changed his line slightly. Happens all the time and shouldn't be punished harder than the initial jury decision did.
Not punishing Demare is so ridiculous, i don't have any words for that.

It's amazing to me - Sagan may not be French but he's one of the biggest draws on the Tour. Not saying he should get special treatment, but it's not like there would have been much critism had he been kept in the Tour. This really does seem harsh.

I have vague memories of Renshaw getting booted off a while back, but that was a clear lunge into another rider with no real defence.

Re: Pro Cycling 2017 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

Yeah it is utterly senseless. I think the majority of people that thought he was really at fault would have expected a penalty.

If their goal was to lower ratings to appease somebody nobody gaf about anymore, then great success.

Having watched it live I'm a little shocked Sagan got DQ'd. There was minor contact by both riders and Cav was trying to push his way through with almost no space.

Leave it to the French to **** up their own big sporting event.

If it had been anybody other than Cavendish, Sagan would not have been DQed.

Who's excited to see a Nieve/Henao/Kwiatkowski/Landa/Thomas/Froome Sky train get into motion today? Way more ridiculous than Postal ever was. I'm going to guess like 5 non-sky riders left when Kwiatkowski pulls over. Lol.

From what I've read I expected a much worse incident for the DQ. wtf

Re: Pro Cycling 2017 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

The fact the race winner did not get punished when he clearly did something worse (without being results orientated) shows the ridiculousness. I don't know how they justify it at all. Tbh there is a good chance Sagan did nothing wrong at all and did not deserve any punishment if you watch it in slow motion.

Sprinting is getting fairly ridiculous tbh and they should do something about the amount of lateral movement seen. Perhaps this is their attempt to do so but it's so unfair in my eyes.

Are you guys sure Sagan didn't just elbow the guy who was passing him and put him into the wall? I thought the overhead looked much worse, btw.

Do we know the nationality of the jury who DQed Sagan? The frenchies have always been mega scum and it really doesn't surprise me. They are the worst homers in all of the world and they're especially super butthurt about the tDf because they've been such a laughing stock for decades despite like half the peloton being french.

Used to be the same for the combativity award where it was automatically given to a french with no logical reasoning guy every other day and the jury was like 80% french

Re: Pro Cycling 2017 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

The more I watch it, the more I just see Sagan running him out of room to the point where he has no choice but to go down. I'm guessing this is a blocking tactic they use all the time, using the barrier as a sideline, but not while you're side by side with someone.

From the overhead you can see how hard he moved in on Cav before all the slow-mo stuff.

WTF is this ****

Sagan is liked worldwide, he is bringing money, TV ratings, he isn't directly competing with any French riders, he crushes Demare on hilly finish, and Demare beats him on Flat bunch sprint

No reason to call this a homer decision

Not just Cav, any big name (e.g., Kittel, Griepel, GVA).

Also think that if Cav was uninjured, Sagan would not have been DQd. Incredibly results oriented decision. I think the relegation was fair. DQ goes way too far.

Should also mention that Froome is now in yellow. Probably for the rest of the Tour.

Sagan's positioning is somewhat forced by movement of other riders as well. You can't look at him and Cav in a vacuum.

Yeah without demare moving from left to right and then back (he did the same last week in the nationals against bouhanni) there would be no problem for sagan to keep his line. But lets be real, would we be french and had absolut no backbone and one of our riders has a big big chance to win green when we disqualify sagan, how fast do we DQ Sagan??

Sagan btw did handel the DQ like a real champ in the first interview I saw.

Demare makes his lateral move after the crash of Cavendish.

BMC really trying to take the "most delusional and useless team moves in the TDF" award from Movistar with a beautiful performance today.
