If Boom starts and Astana leave the MPCC it's a complete slap in the face to the sport.

BMC has the best helmets. Why does durbridge started so early? Definitely a disadvantage for him against the late starter.

Nevermind cant even beat van emden

You can get 5-1 odds on Contador right now. That seems a bit generous to me, as someone who knows less than nothing about sports betting.

Re: Pro Cycling 2015 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

Not sure even Contador can find a way to win the Tour after this years Giro. Doing the Giro/Tour double is silly enough on a normal year but thanks to Astana the Giro looked really hard and the route in this Tour looks harder than most years. Couple of early stages on the coast to guarantee some crosswind stages and the long stage with cobbles. Should make the TTT on the 9th stage a nice lottery when with a little bad luck some teams will already be missing a few riders at the starting line.

Nibali seems underrated. Not sure why Quintana/Froome would be bigger favorites. If Nibali shows up in the same form he had in the Tour last year and Giro the year before it's not really likely that anyone is going to easily drop him in the mountains and in all the technical stuff he's just better than the others. And he has a strong team just liberated from the MPCC madness.

The Boom thing shows just how dumb the MPCC is when many of the top teams haven't even bothered to pretend to be part of it. As if Astana would start the race a man short for something that the UCI/WADA doesn't consider an issue and their main competitors ignore completely. Not sure why Astana ever joined the whole thing or why MPCC considered Astana to be a member worth having really. Only in cycling.

They joined as a PR stunt, but backed out the moment it became an inconvenience to their endemic doping.

Re: Pro Cycling 2015 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

The whole thing is a PR stunt and the issue in question is more a 'health issue' than doping when the related drugs are legal out of competition and even in competition with a TUE. And commonly used and abused in all sports. For decades now.

Lol Astana in the MPCC.

Somehow I missed that time bonuses are back.

Phil and Paul are even worse than years passed

Main Favorites:

Pinot (+41 sec behind Dennis overall)
Van Garderen +1
Nibali +2
Froome +9
Valverde +15
Contador +17
Peraud +18
Quintana +20

Winner imo Quintana and Pinot. Pretty disappointing for Froome

I also thought Gesink rode a good TT to be 33 seconds off the pace. But I mean his overall challenging days are probably over.

And that is definitely a victory for Quintana to be only 3 seconds back from Contador and 11 from Froome. I expected him to lose much more time, especially with this being a time trial on a flat stage.

Re: Pro Cycling 2015 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

Today first real stage. Absolute flat, but windy. One of those 'you cant win, but loose the tour' days. Last 1,4k are straight ahead, and as far as i understand the finish is on a dike!!???

Favorites: the usual suspects cav, greipel, birthday boy kristoff. Also sagan, degenkolb, demare, bouhanni.

Epic stage so far. Nibali looks in trouble right now and Quintana might just be losing the tour

Really is unforgivable knowing the conditions pre race to find yourself cut adrift. I've only turned on so don't know if there was a crash or anything? Im just assuming its a standard split?

Pretty exciting for a flat race. They are now trying to get the finish area as dry as possible, the Dutch commenters just said. Should make for an exciting masssprint.

Re: Pro Cycling 2015 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

They ended up ranking Cancellara and Martin in the same group despite fabian being well in front in a different group imo. Doesn't matter massive WIM from fabian to take 3rd place and earn the yellow jersey

Cance is just such a legend. Perfectly executed from him imo. Dont think there was a real gap between him and martin. Maybe 1sec.

Winners todays obv froome, contador and van Garderen also sagan.

Pretty sick first stage, tomorrow mur de huy. Maybe a chance for Quintana to win some time back?

So Cav completely mistimed it again or is he just done? Been so long since I remember seeing him beat Greipel or Kittel straight up.

Re: Pro Cycling 2015 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

That was just a super horrible sprint setup by Etixx. They had more riders than anyone else and they still blow it. Renshaw went too early and Cavendish went waaaayy too early.

Unfortunate for Nibali to be caught up in a crash, but this could mean some entertaining racing. The big four are still all within 1'40 of each other so nothing is over yet. Nibali will probably try some form of attack both tomorrow and Tuesday.

In previous years I haven't really cared until they hit the mountains, but that's not the case anymore. The organisers set the first week up really nicely now.
