He's probably the most popular rider in the peloton, among fans, at least, so it's not a big surprise.

Here's the race highlights from UCI:

Pretty awesome re-watching it. Live, I was watching a crappy stream that kept going in and out and didn't have a commentator. So I didn't really realize how close it was at the end

MTN-Qhubeka signing Cav ,Renshaw and Eisel for next season gives them a pretty decent sprint roster.Their new sponsors must have upped the amount they are paying over what MTN were paying to have afforded them I would think.

The rumour for a while was that Cav needed to bring a sponsor along to cover his salary so it will be interesting if it comes out that he brought them along or if the team themselves brought Dimension Data in.

Even bigger than the Cav news may be the fact that Lidl coming in as a sponsor for EQST have got Kittel into Cav's old spot. I think he will recover next season and if they can put a decent leadout around him will be the signing of the summer. I am interested to see this new attacking Cav with freedom though and hope that he entertains and can also find a spot in the omnium at the Olympics. Clancy is currently injured and Cav is going to train with the team pursuit so he is pretty well positioned if he can recover quickly from the shoulder injury.

They are setting themselves up with a pretty decent sprint /Classics team after all of the recent signings. I know they have talked about making the step up to World Tour level so a successful year should help with that.

Yeah I meant Deloitte, not Dimension in my above post. I haven't seen it reported anywhere if Cav was the main influence bringing them in.

why? i don't think the mountain stages & MTFs are hard / steep enough for him in general. and TT#1 definitely doesn't favour him, i think he'll lose ~1' - 1'30min to froome there, no? and TT#2 should be quite even between the top climbers.
and the sky team will be once again perfectly focussed on froome, while movistar will act like pussies

obviously all assuming that they will have the same form as 2015 (which won't be the case).

as a Swiss, i'm pumped about the two swiss stages (and restday). i'll probably go watch the end of stage 17 live (and hope to combine it with a few days of cycling there), it ends at the Emosson dam:

first impression otherwise: i think it's a solid TDF route, but nothing exceptional.

@mkay: stage 15 is 159km and looks awesome. i climbed the final climb, the grand colimbier, two years ago (but from culoz).

Re: Pro Cycling 2015 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

Not really the pro cycling people itt care about. But in China, race organizers accidentally routed one group of cyclists the wrong way, leading to something you don't often see in cycling--a head-on collision:

I can't even click that. How sociopathic must he be that he can't just slither away out of the public eye? I understand he wants to go into ultrarunning. I want to go into ultrarunning and I don't want him tarnishing the sport for me.

Re: Pro Cycling 2015 thread: Le Tour, Giro, Vuelta, etc.

Haven't finished it yet but it's interesting. He does seem a little bit less cautious about his image than he used to be before (after he was busted) in this but you can still see him being careful about some of the stuff he stays and passively trying to defend himself.

Not particularly liking Joe's input who seems like he knows nothing about cycling (called them 'cyclers' a bunch of time) and seems to be very partial towards Lance without weighting some important factors.
Lance believing that the results would have for sure been the same without PED's thus supposing that doping is uniform seems questionable too

Just found this article/letter (written almost 3 years ago) that still perfectly encapsulates my take on Armstrong.

Glad Lance still has the 7 jerseys up in his home and is proud. What he did was incredible and he should be.
