Had dinner with Ryder Hesjedal's parents last night. Nice folks, learned a lot about bike racing.

It's quite depressing to think he probably has a point and it happens a lot more than is ever seen on the live broadcasts. Found the whole thing quite funny live with Nibali mysteriously disappearing while the Astana car speeds away. Sort of makes you wonder how much the cameras miss or they just choose not to show on TV.

bit of an odd one. looked like he was trying to force other teams to chase to set it up for valverde. would be interesting to know how much he had left in the tank.

Solid start for my velogames team.

avoided expensive sprinters due to lack of sprint stages and people leaving for world champs

With hindsight you wonder if the TV guys regret putting that clip on? Probably would rather have Nibal still in the race.

I've been completely ignoring the Vuelta, for some reason, so I missed the Nibali incident. Here it is for anyone else who missed it:

Astana is such a scummy team.

Yeah he's definitely guilty of getting an unfair advantage.

LottoNL-Jumbo have had a terrible year, but still have more Grand Tour stage wins than Sky in 2014.

That nibali thing is just rediculous. How could they ever think they would get awat with it. Wtf were the other riders thinking when they saw it

Crazy vuelta stage. Many crashes. Two really sick downhill parts. Van Garderen and d. Martin out. Sagan crashes 8km away from finish as the only Sprinter in the first group. Not sure but i think a moto took him down

Lots of teams do it. But they're usually subtle about it and only keep pace with other cyclists. Astana just flat out floored the accelerator when Nibali hung on.

They were in a voluntary scheme to not hold onto cars to help a rider, but opted out when it stopped suiting them.

So a motorcycle took out Sagan today close to the finish when he had a big chance of winning.

There have been way too many incidents with motorbikes this year. It's such a ridiculous way for riders to lose a race.

Naaa he punched the medical car. Then he wanted to kick the motorbike, but just kicked in he air then he kicked his own front wheel. Btw the guy who won had his hand broken in the crash. He and sagan both left the vuelta today.

And it's tolerated/overlooked up to a point. As it should be - to neutralize the disadvantage to those who have to give it a crack because luck has sent them there. But Nibali......

Have the drivers in cycling got dramatically worse over the last couple of years or do we just see and hear about them randomly mowing down riders a lot more nowadays due to the massive rise in coverage the sport has had?
