They neutralised the GC once they reached the finishing circuits so be only had to complete all of the laps.

Only 4 teams earned more than 100k during 3 weeks. I wonder how much it costs the teams to run around France with multiple teams cars, buses, chefs, and mechanic's trucks for those 3 weeks?

a lot obviously, but i bet the bulk of their sponsorship/revenue money comes as a result of exposure on the tour

Yeah, they must be making way more than that from ad revenue.

I know that I, for one, am running out to buy Alpecin shampoo as a result of those ads with John Degenkolb.

I'm actually tempted to try Alpecin as well. Too many ads

The alpecin commerical were so funny. Only saw the degenkolb and nikias arndt one, but to have two nearly bald man as the face of shampoo that helps growing hair is somehow funny imo.

All he prize money together is just 2 mio €. One would think that the 3rd biggest sportevent of the world would pay more.... I mean a golfer or Tennis player wins that alone for a major titel.

How effective is sponsorship though? My favorite team is Etixx QuickStep and I have no idea what either Etixx or QuickStep make.

And what was the point of US Postal sponsoring a team? People use the post office because they have no choice, not because they are the best at delivering mail or because they sponsored Lance.

Think Etixx is just Omega Pharma pushing a brand of theirs. So basically same sponsor as before. Pharma companies in cycling has always felt so right. Is Amgen still sponsoring Tour of California?

Considering how many bike manufacturers are main sponsors these days I'd guess it's not working out that well overall. And seen Tinkoff whine about it being a waste of money for him with little if any return. After US Postal/Telekom/Rabobank large companies probably think twice before getting into the sport and a lot of teams have been dying lately. Guess Europcar is next to go. Festina seems to have transcended to the next level with Virenque again in their adds. Hopefully T-Mobile and Rabo will follow.

Europcar is no more in the cycling world - I think I heard them saying that anyway so all the riders will be looking for teams.

I believe I read in his cyclingnews blog today that he had personally sunk 40 million Euros into the sport which he guessed was second behind only Andy Rhis.

I believe they are still trying to rescue the team and hoping that the showing at the tour would generate interest. All riders are free to sign with new teams as of August 1st though.

Yeah was a funny race. The tv coverage stop 50km from the finish and was back on with ~7km to go. Yates was asking his team on the last 200m if he was in front but they also didnt know what happend to van avermaet.

This race was a bit of a farce. Still a good win from Yates, and his "did I win?" celebration was pretty epic.
