Worked pretty well at Worlds.

There was nothing wrong with Kwiat's attacks. Porte is stronger than him uphill so he took advantage of Porte being weak on the wet descents in order to prevent losing time. He would probably have lost more time if he had waited and gotten dropped on the final climb.

First monument of the season is this weekend with Milan-San Remo.

Similar course to the 2009 edition, where this happened.

1) Video quality was so bad 6 years ago, but this is the first one I saw that had the overhead view.

2) Cav is 6 years older and probably not as fast as he was back then.

3) I'd heard criticism that Housler went too early, but he played it nearly perfectly. He had a huge lead with 100 m to go. I don't think anyone could have really predicted that Cav could make up that much distance in so short a time.

As for this year, Sagan broke a 9-month winless streak this week, so maybe his turn to break through? Or will the Arsenal of pro cycling continue his 2nd place ways and lose to Kristoff?

I thought the story was Hausler was leading out Thor and was just stronger so he pulled off. Cav's best win probably.

In terms of difficulty plus prestige, you're probably right.

Most visually impressive was probably 2012 TdF Stage 18, doing a 350-400 m sprint:

Back to modern day, here is How the Race Was Won: Milan San Remo 2015

Since we're on the subject of Cav, he apparently dropped a chain on the final climb, the second time this month he's dropped a chain.

Be nice if whoever is in charge of the televising of Catalunya actually managed to do it competently.

Is there anyone in the world who consistently provides worse coverage than Spanish TV, even the Vuelta coverage is normally sub standard.

Today the cobbled classics start to get serious. Dwars Door Vlanderen today, E3 Harelbeke on friday and finally Gent-Wevelgem on sunday. The best part of the cycling season is here!

Amazing race today. The best edition of Gent-Wevelgem in a lot of years. The wind was insane at some points and people literally got blown off the road.

Well done by Paolini. Impressive how he closed a 1 minute gap to a strong 5 man group on his own.

Vanmarcke looks a bit weak only a week from Flanders. Doesn't look like a guy who's gonna win a monument this year.

EQS once again guaranteeing defeat because they were afraid of losing if they tried to win.

They really need to grow some balls if they want to win the number of these races their roster says they should do.

Some "pundits" suggest it's not the lack of balls, it's the overabundance of talent. They have so many riders who think that the team should be racing for them that the riders don't end up supporting each other. That would be why they work as a team for Cav in group sprints because he's the clear alpha in those situations.

When you have the current world champ, the current Paris-Roubaix champ, a classics legend, and other very strong classics riders like Stybar and Vandenbergh all on the same team, they all think the team should be riding for them and thus they don't ride best.

I don't agree with that assessment. The whole "Ettix-Misstep" meme is because of three races. In Omloop, they had 3 riders in a 4-man breakaway. But that isn't nearly as dominant as it sounds because it allows the 4th man to wheel-suck his way to the finish. Replace any one of those three riders with a random Katusha rider and all of a sudden Stannard has to work also and EQS does have the advantage.

Then you have the two races this weekend. At E3, Thomas just picked the perfect time to go--just after Stybar finished his pull and Stybar was expecting Sagan to follow Thomas. Sagan was spent (finished 1'14" back while the second pack was only 38 seconds behind Thomas.) This wasn't a team situation, it was just Thomas being stronger than everyone else.

At Gent, this was a whole lot of people making the same mistake--letting Paolini get ahead. When you watch it, you see Paolini make a break and everyone stares at each other. Yes, two of those guys were EQS guys, but others made the same mistake, such as Geraint Thomas, the hero of the previous day.
