From Sky's perspective, all that matters for Porte is supporting Froome in the mountain. So it would make sense to make sure all their domestiques are rested heading into next week.

If I was 100% about to fail a doping test, I'd probably snort a bunch of coke and get a shorter ban and less public humiliation for it.

It's unlikely that he's in top shape now after having built his schedule around peaking for the Giro.

I expect Poels to be Froome's best helper in the mountains. Geraint Thomas, Kennaugh and König might also outperform Porte(although König also rode the Giro so his form is a bit uncertain).

It's a stimulant, so yes.

How does that even make sense?

Can it be a masking agent?

Yeah tough tour for the sprinters. Few stages and those that are many have a bit of a spanner in the works.

No, can't be used as a masking agent. Besides, it's easy to detect and is banned during competition (so you can't compare his case to Boonen's OOC positive). He probably tries to come up with a ridiculous excuse to get his ban reduced.

Best pun i've read so far: "He wanted to end his career on a high".

The former. It has been different this year because usually you would see him around the top 10 in the general classification but with him riding the Giro he and the team have probably just decided that he will only put in performances for Froome in the mountains.

What usually around top 10 general? He made 1 top 10 in his career

In a 3 weeks race Porte has always been terrible, had he pushed hard on the first week, he wouldn't have been able to finish the Pyrenees before being useless to Froome. Guy really can't ride his bike more than 10 days in a row

Another one of those uphill finishes today. I'm thinking maybe Valverde, or hopefully Sagan.

I believe le mur de bretagne was the arrival of the 1st stage of the tour like 2-3 years ago. Would have been perfect for someone like Gilbert. Agree with Valverde as favorite, guess Sagan can win too (when can't he??)

Porte worked a lot in the cobble stage, so I doubt they are resting him.

Nibali not looking great there - could be a ploy to make them think he's struggling then launch his attack when we hit the mountains in a couple of days

Nibali's ploy of going ham on the cobbles didn't work out this year. He can't climb for ****. Forget him.

Nibali proving that he is exactly who we thought he was before he won the tour when everyone dropped out, a good not great rider.
