I think alot of the rules of basketball rig the game to generate as many last second buzzer beat shots as possible, since that's what the public thinks is most exciting.

For baseball bottom of the screen is better.

Tennis is the best game for going completely tech. Keep the chair umpire and ball boys. Eliminate all the other line judges. One person in the replay booth. Computer makes all calls just like in a video game. No challenges since all calls are correct.

Re: Post a rule change that you think would improve a sport

An offensive fumble that goes out the back or side of the endzone should not be change of possession. Give it to the offense on the 5 yard line or something. Next down, as is.

Reasoning: if you fumble out of bounds anywhere else, its not a turnover. The current rule is too harsh.

I guess fumbles in the endzone should still be safetys, tbh haven't thought of htat as much, doesn't happen as often.

This would be better than the current system...

But I'd rather they just play an entire 5th quarter w/ 4th quarter rules w/ each team receiving (1) additional time out PLUS any time outs left over from the 2nd half...

And as I mentioned earlier... If you don't call any time outs in the 1st half you start the 2nd half w/ 4 time outs.

would eat up way too much time probably, and a lot of them are so close that it's kinda pointless. maybe make them reviewable via challenge?

one thing all sports show adopt via video review is the NHL style centralized command center, where they have a bunch of people working in a room with multiple monitors of every game. when something happens there's usually someone already watching that game, other people come over to check it out, they debate, the review is already under way before it is even requested by the in-game officials. it just speeds everything up so much (unless it's a really tough call), there's really no need to have the in-game officials going over to some monitor on the side to figure out what happened, but i guess they should probably keep one anyway (so they can see what happened too, then a phone to communicate with the command center).

this is true, but they don't always leave the game for a commercial during every TO, sometimes they stay and you listen to the announcers for 30-60 seconds. i don't really see a reason to have more TO's than needed commercial breaks, removing the extra ones would help speed up the game and improve flow at the end of games.

Watching a punt kicker lay a smackdown tackle on a punt returner is pretty awesome for instance.
in addition to the awesomeness of watching a reg player kick an extra point, it would increase the amount of times teams elected to go for 2.

this is a fantastic idea.

plus, late game strategy

eliminate the OT loss rule in the NHL or make wins worth 3 points and OT losses worth 1 point

no to the 1st (in the old days a regular season OT game would end in a tie like 95% of the time because no one wanted to risk losing a point), but yes to the 2nd. it should be:

3 points for regulation win
2 point for OT/SO win
1 point for OT/SO loss

i feel like this might even reduce scoring, causing less adventurous play when the game is tied, but maybe more in a 1-goal game late.

and NA sports just aren't set up for the relegation system, it'd never work. minor league teams/buildings just aren't up to pro standards, and the leagues would take a big hit in the years they'd have to send down big clubs like the Knicks, Leafs, etc. it might even outright kill already fragile franchises. plus there's no way current owners would ever agree to bring in such a system where they have nothing to gain, and everything to lose.

what i meant was that we should still keep the shootout, but eliminate people getting a point for an OT loss

also, i dont think relegation will happen, just that baseball would be better if it did

relegation/promotion is such an awesome concept, but with US sports all driven by drafts and college it can't happen which is a shame, tearing the whole system down and starting over would be pretty sweet

what changes would be made to 2pt conversions?

Only the players that scored can make a forward pass?

If you don't change anything then there would only be 2pt conversions.

And Chad Ochocinco.

Besides, I think that's the idea.

they should cut the soccer field to half the size and half the amount of players on the field. make the net a bit smaller and increase the amount of contact allowed. side boards to eliminate throw ins but not on the end to avoid shots that miss bouncing back. if this happens i believe i would enjoy the boring game that is soccer.

I would really like to see the indisputable standard removed from NFL review. If the official is more sure than not on a call, it should be able to be overturned.

This, plus they should put the players on ice skates and make them hit the ball with sticks instead of their feet. Oh, and instead of a ball you could use a small flat disc of rubber!
