Get rid of coaches challenges(NFL obv).. Should be 100% booth reviews on all questionable plays, the refs wear those small mics/earphones anyways, let them be connected to the booth so the guys watching a hundred replays can let them know the right call on the spot.. Ref doesn't need to go over to the sideline and watch clips by himself for 2 minutes

Banning the races from being broadcast on television would greatly improve NASCAR.

ok, i was kinda screwing around earlier itt because as Triumph noted, we've done this discussion a few times before in the NHL Thread, but...

wat

i don't know blinden at all, but i thought ao was actually kind of a hockey fan? this idea is so terrible that i can't believe it.

one of those flimsy sticks break in the last minute? PENALTY SHOT!!!
puck accidentally shot over the glass? PENALTY SHOT!!!
bad line change resulting in a too many men call? PENALTY SHOT!!!
roughing penalty in a scrum after the final whistle? PENALTY SHOT!!!
mouth off to the ref too much? PENALTY SHOT!!! (i definitely want people like Stephan Auger to have this kind of authority!)

one of the worst ideas itt, and that's saying something.

see, i was thinking the rule would work if it's the team ahead that commits the penalty. otherwise the clock should run out as normal.

nfl overtime
To get sudden death victory you have to score 4+. If you score a FG the quarter continues (if OT ends and you're up 3, you win ofc)

nfl reviews
You don't lose a review if you were right.

Hockey overtime
Overtime should be longer. 8 mins at least, 10 preferably. There can be a TV time out where teams can switch ends of the ice half way through.

i think any proposed rule change to make the NHL regular season longer is a pretty bad idea. games are 60 minutes + 5 if necessary, that's certainly enough time to win a game. if anything they should be trying to make the season shorter. but that will never happen, so let's just leave the 60 + 5 + shootout system alone.

NFL
- One foot in bounds for receivers. There would be some sick highlight-reel catches.
- Widen the field by 10 yards

CFL
- Get rid of that god damn single point.

NHL
- Fighting is an automatic ejection like in every other sport always all the time.
- Bigger ice

NBA
- 3 extra feet in each corner to space the floor and allow for more corner 3s. If you want to stretch it enough to make the 3-point line an actual half-circle, cool by me.

Soccer
- Two extra assistant referees in European play are in every major tournament/league
- Be less dickish when awarding own-goals

+1 to all these.

NFL
Limit the number of punts to 4 per team/game.
Make any penalty of 15+ yards reviewable.

NFL:
-Get rid of the fair catch

MLB:
- Get rid of fan interference to the effect that as long as the fan stays in the stands (ie doesnt fall out) that they can do whatever they want to prevent the ball from being caught. Part of homefield advantage. If this occurs on a homerun ball, it is a homer if the fan is able to bring it up into the stands and a ground rule double if not. Would make for some funny **** when fans sucked at catching.
-Get rid of the dropped third strike and the batter can run rule.

NBA:
- Get rid of all 3 second Tech's and violations
- Make foul shots worth 1.5 points to make fouling -EV

NCAA BBall:
- 6 fouls to foul out

TD: game over. FG: opponents get one possession. They must score a TD to win, else you win.

Basketball: If you intentional foul with the lead it's a technical.. Sucks when a team is down 3 with seconds left and you know they aren't even going to get a shot off because it's so +EV for the winning team to mug the guy before he can take the shot.. Takes a lot of excitement out of the end of the game

That leaves interpretation of intentionality to the refs. Although I don't know if an arbitrary rule like if Team A is fouled down 3 with less than X seconds left in the game outside the 3 point line they get 3 free throws is much better.

Ban extra point kicks.

Make touchdowns 7 points and have the two-point conversion become the new extra point.

How about providing an official clock for soccer games, so we don't need to guess when the game will end.

let the game end, but the guy still has to sit in the box until his penalty is up.

its good in theory, but then you leave it up to the refs as to whats "intentional".

technically speaking, if the team commits an "intentional foul" then the other team would get shots and the ball.

I like how it is because it balances out the other team being able to foul to catch up.

Its no different than having fouls to give and to foul to make the clock shorter.

If anytime the ref deemed the foul to be committed on purpose a Tech was awarded, there would be like 10 per game just from underneath play and fastbreaks.

Mine wasn't something I'd actually like to see happen, just spit-balling in the same vein as what was proposed. I'm not greatly offended when a team ends regulation or the OT period down a man.

Not allowing a player who was serving a penalty at the end of overtime to be included in the shootout has been thrown around. And 72off, remember some of the crazy stuff the NHL "tried" this summer in simulated games?

nobody with any basketball IQ would like that rule. its as much a part of strategy as when to call timeouts or who to have taking the game winning shot. say theres 6 secs left, team A up by 3 immediately fouls team B. team B goes to the like hits both FT's, then fouls team A on the ensuing inbound. team A makes the first but misses the second FT, now team B calls a timeout. theres 3-4 seconds left and now team A has put themselves in a position where a 3 pt shot beats them instead of just sending it to OT. thats without even bringing up the possibility of fouling team B in the act of shooting a 3 by mistake. so to try to make any change there is just very first level thinking and someone who obviously doesnt want to involve strategy into the end-game situation

Extra personal fouls before DQ in overtime and multi-overtime games. They give extra timeouts, extra commercials, everything extra except having players to play. Been pissing me off since the 1974 Final Four.
