That's a very good point.

or someone can pay ppl to actually chart these simple things. like, its a big business. rilly big. surely it would be worthwhile to make an attempt to account for context.

He was exaggerating, but offside is missed quite a bit and it's a really easy thing to be able to review on goals.

They are already charted. You just have to pay for the numbers.

How about limiting the number of punts for an NFL game to be 4 for each team?

Tired of these unsportsmanlike penalties for celebrating after a touchdown. Soccer and hockey allows celebrations. It's not like anyone is wasting time. Those touchdown reviews take forever.
If a player gets in-the-face of the opponents, fine the player. Don't penalize the team.

You can still get punished for lots of things in soccer celebrations...

I favor punishing the player, not the team.

College basketball shotclock could be shorter.

Maybe just in games that include a team from the B1G

i never understood why the nfl doesn't have a headquarters that has final review on coaches challenges/scoring plays/etc like the NHL does. you won't need full time refs, but you can pay ~12 people to study the game extensively and know all the rules, and will be able to make the correct call

that way we won't have bad non-td calls, we won't have backwards passes ruled incomplete, etc.

it will also eliminate the refs from going under the hood

They'll have more of an advantage. More rebounds in game dramatically favors the tall players.

There seems to be an insane obsession with cracking down specifically on college football.

I mean, other sports, both college and pro, players celebrate all the time, but for some reason in college football refs are super eager to throw a celebration penalty, it's pretty absurd. I would do away with the penalty all together, if you don't get up in the other teams faces and don't slow the game down, do whatever you want.

College Football: Covering up for a child rapist is a 15 yard penalty enforced on the ensuing kickoff.

It's fun watching vintage basketball clips. Everyone dribbles with their right hand only.

Soccer: Get a red card and you are forced to watch an entire soccer game.

It seems good to deter college athletes from celebrating too much given the frequency that very, very good schools play against very weak schools.

Yeah, in like a national championship game where the playing field should be level, I agree that the players should be allowed to go wild as long as it doesn't interfere with the game, but then there is a gray area for other big games that's better just to not have to deal with.

agreed, celebration rules in HS and college are fine, but in the pros its stupid, this is entertainment okay

the NFL needs to start flagging players when they motion to the officials to throw a flag. unsportsmanlike conduct 15 yard penalty. It has become necessary because the incompetent officials they hired started reacting to this motion and throwing bogus flags way after the play is over. especially def pass interference and roughing the passer calls.

if you're going to do that, this is a way bigger problem in the NBA

i once had a ref in a soccer game declare that the next person to "call" for handball akin to what hte post two above me says, gets a yellow card. we were all like go **** yourself, how do you play a soccer game without yelling for handballs?

Removing your shirt after a goal for instance is a mandatory yellow card. While this kind of "punishes the player" it also hurts a team to have one of their players on a yellow.

How about murdering the football player who celebrates a tackle or first down when his team is down 21 or more points?
