Soccer - if a player goes to the ground with "faking" an injury and stays on the ground for more than 20 seconds he/she must go off the field for 3 minutes unless immediately substituted for. Twice in one game is a red card.

This... this is a very good idea.

This would be a great idea. I have a buddy who used to be a side judge in the B1G and he said the sideline bitches about spotting the ball almost every single play.

Way better IMO to implement technology in the ball itself that'll pinpoint the spot of furthest penetration. Obviously there'll still be a human element on plays where the runner gives up ground, ball is fumbled forward, receiver juggles the catch while coming back to the ball etc.

NFL- replace the yellow penalty flags with live grenades. replace the red challenge flags with live rattlesnakes.

Ban holding calls on punts and kickoffs. Nothing worse than seeing a guy run a ball back 100 yards and it's irrelevant.

So just allow holding on returns? Seems a little silly. Would be a TD the majority of returns I think if they can just hold

etc

Yea maybe lol. It just pisses me off when a runner springs a 85 yarder and you see that yellow flag on the field.

How do you think he got those 85 yards? The hold probably had something to do with it.

Seems like the holds are way more prevalent on kickoffs than punts, yet another reason to get rid kickoffs altogether. The NFL already hates them due to the constant injuries from full-speed collisions even on the 80% of them that end in touchbacks.

I still kinda like Schiano's old proposal to eliminate them while still allowing the equivalent of an onside kick: After scoring, the offensive team immediately gets the ball back at their own 30 in a 4th and 15 situation. Obviously they'll go ahead and punt 98% of the time but they have the option to go for it if they're desperate. The ensuing punt return is safer and more exciting than the kickoff, and the starting points after punting and "onside kicking" would be similar to what they were before. The only thing that might have to be tweaked is the yardage to go (4th and 15 is a similar % to make as the overall onside kick rate, but way better than the non-surprise kick).

That's extremely difficult. This isn't soccer, where the position of the ball is the only thing that matters. You also have to take into account what parts of the ball carriers body is touching the ground and if the ball carrier was touched before going down.

you could watch a replay though and freeze it at the moment you need to know where the ball is. like any short yardage carry when you can see the knee hit but the upper body and ball are in the middle of 15 people.

Why not when you spot the ball after a first down it is spotted at the nearest yard marker.

That way a 1st down is always at the yard mark.

How can holds be more prevalent on kickoffs than punts when 99.35% of kickoffs result in a touchback because goodell is ruining the game

Hear, hear. I used to be against this for... reasons, but depending on 65-year-old eyesight might as well be (and often is) completely random.

Man, you want to fvck over defenses even more?

Get rid of being able to throw the ball away. Defense makes a great play and the QB can just heave it OOB instead of a 10 yard loss. What should be a drive killing play becomes just a loss of down.

Allow DB to make contact down the field, not just 5 yards, but not when the ball gets there. Keeps it fair for both sides and might even slow down concussions since WR aren't running full speed the entire route.

Yeah, this is the biggest advantage you can give to the offense. It really doesn't make any sense.

I don’t see what’s wrong with the current legal grounding rules. It’s not like they get to replay the down.

Like there is some platonically correct number of sacks per game and the current rules are keeping the actual number artificially low?

Every time they throw a pass to no one they are gaining the yardage between wherever they are and theline of scrimmage. Sure they lose the down but 2nd and 10 is much better than 2nd and 18

How accurate can you make tracking a football? Occlusion is going to be a huge issue with camera-based systems like Hawkeye, both for the ball itself and the body parts of the runner to determine down by contact, and the last I read was that RFID chips in the ball are accurate to six inches, which doesn’t seem any more accurate than just eyeballing it on video currently
Post a rule change that you think would improve a sport Quote

Yeah I was thinking about something like RFID, but yeah if it's six inches that's no good. Would have to be good within an inch, two tops.
