Since the merger, there appear to have been 12 games where teams have scored six or more FGs without scoring a touchdown. KC was the first team to lose such a game. (Two such games had the winning team scoring a safety, including the Vikings winning in 1989 in OT on a safety.)

He might not kick a game winning field goal because they only ran 24 times, and teams that run 25 or more times win more often than teams who kick 6 field goals.

Fat Mike is streets ahead of all of us.

Something needs to be done about kickoffs in the NFL. Who wants to watch them blast every ball through the end zone? I would propose doing away with the tee. Kicking off the turf would probably reduce the distance on kicks and decrease the number of touchbacks. Plus, the holder wouldn't get down field as fast to cover the kick, making it more likely a returner will try running it out of the end zone.

New NFL Rule: Refs must actually enforce obvious penalties against SEA in primetime games

I know it sounds like sour grapes, and maybe it is, but I can't think of a team in my life watching sports that has benefitted from bad calls and high variance plays more than the Seahawks in the last 3 years.

They could be 1-3, but nope, 2-2 and back in the thick of things.

they moved the kickoff closer for more touchbacks a few years ago to reduce injuries.

CFL's got your back on this one. No fair catch, but the returner has to be given a five yard bubble that enables him to make the catch and not get smoked as soon as he catches it.

They may as well just eliminate kickoffs altogether then and just take the ball at the 20. Who wants to watch a touchback?

Make touchbacks come out to the 30, lt would stop them from kicking to the endzone so much. Also it would give them less incentive to punt in opponents territory.

I agree completely, but my friend from SEA has a different slant on things.

you would miss out on the Xtra Point- Timeout-KO/Touchback-Timeout excitement.

Do you really want to live in a world without onside kicks? Do you really want to live in a world where we can't look down on coaches for not ordering an onside kick?

That jerk Rob Bironas made 6 field goals in houston once. We won that battle, though. He's DEAD now.

This reminds me: lets shorten the yardage required for onside kicks to even the odds somewhat. Like 7 yards. Right now teams only convert about 20% when the other team is expecting it. How much more exciting would the end of games be if it was 40%?

i assume that in this situation the receiving team would still need to be 10 yards away

Of course it would still have an impact if both the minimum distance and other team sat 7 yards away. The kicking team has to run three less yards to get to a ball which takes less time. Not like moving it 3 yards closer is going to change the strategy of the kick at all. Just the power kickers have to put on it. They will still try to top it and pop it up.

Obviously a larger impact is achieved if the receiving team has to move 3 yards too, but doesn't mean narrowing it won't have an impact.

Baseball.

Now that you've done away with home plate collisions, might as well do away with takeout slides at 2nd base. 2 teams both lost their best player on these plays today, a play which isn't really any different than the home plate collision.

Especially since if you wanted to injure a player with a serious take out slide, it's so easy to cause serious damage.

Kang
Beltre
Donaldson

Who's next? Why does a play exist where a player goes and slide tackles a fielder who is trying to make a legit and challenging defensive play?

And yes the 2 players who got hurt today were the ones sliding.

yes. lol rules of baseball. remember that obstruction call with allen craig and middlebrooks in the ws a couple years ago. lol at all these baserunners running over fielders, then calling obstruction in some pedestrian situations.

if you score a touchdown and are down by exactly 1 point, you should have to go for 2
