Yeah I'm always wishing there were more timeouts when I watch sports.

Mark Buehrle delivers each pitch 5.1 seconds faster than the average pitcher. Apparently, since 2000, he's saved fans 63 hours of wasted time between pitchers over an average pitcher. lol. Damn.

I know him and Ryan Franklin threw a regulation (well, 8.5 innings) game that took only 1 hour 39 minutes. A 12-strikeout, 3-hitter, where some dude named Ichiro Suzuki got all 3 hits.

Clearly if the opposing pitcher had took more time, he would had struck out Suzuki all 3 times.

You...wouldnt get more baseball this way? His point isnt terrible. Presumably people watch sports because they like sports. Whats with this rush to get **** over with? People just like sports results? Run simulators then.

Umm no dude, unless you increase the number of outs its the same amount of baseball, just taking longer. How is that a difficult concept?

Right, thats my point. Your scenario does not give more baseball. So no one who likes baseball would be in favor of it. I know you were being sarcastic, but it misses the point. People are talking about actually removing parts of game action in order to shorten the entire thing. The counter argument to this is not to say "if you want more baseball, how about more commercials."

That implies that people watching baseball game want the pitcher and batter walking around aimlessly after every pitch

Which part of the game action? The stepping out of the batters box every pitch? Suffice it to say I dont find that to be an important part of the game. However the suggestion to simply limit commercial breaks would shorten the game length without losing any of that 'action'.

Well obviously in this context I simply mean stop the clock not an actual timeout.

Prob should have said that. My b

I hate using my DVR when I record 5 hours of golf because I get more golf when I see Jim Furyk fidget around for 2 minutes before every 6 footer.

Eliminate field goals and punts (all kicking - you can keep it, Euroland)

You just have 4 downs and if you get stopped on your own 27 yardline, well, you're ****ed.

The NFL is such a terrible product with punting and kicking. It's a ridiculous farce.

I'd like to see them limited, maybe 6 kicks per game, a FG,XP or punt would count as a kick. Imagine the bad coaching decisions.

I love baseball and don't really care how long a game lasts, but it was really frustrating tonight when I would watch a play in the New England/NY Jets game, flip over to the STL/SF game just trying to catch the next pitch, wait forever (and not knowing how long ago the previous pitch was thrown I kept waiting) and still did not have the next pitch before the next play in the football game.

It should not take 30+ seconds between pitches, and there were not any pickoff plays here. I know all pitchers don't work that way but I think Casilla was on the mound when I was really noticing how long it was taking between pitches and at the time and it was extremely frustrating. I think it is fair to expect a single pitch to happen in the 30ish seconds between plays in a football game. If I was focused on just that game I would not have cared at all but in that moment the individual pitches were taking way too long for me, obviously if I had a bigger rooting interest in either of the teams I would not have cared at all, but was just trying to catch a pitch as a casual fan in-between plays of the football game I was watching and couldn't even do that.

I don't know what a good solution to that is as I don't think baseball should have a time limit. Normally when people say baseball takes too long I laugh in their face as I love everything about the sport but it shouldn't take a pitcher 30 seconds before he even gets back on the mound after throwing a pitch that is not hit in play.

I'm sure some fans like the system as it is, but I suspect a fan poll that asked the right question (which is not "Are shootouts exciting" but "Would you prefer shootouts or overtime to decide games") would fall overwhelmingly in favor of overtime. Shootouts exist not to please fans, but to satisfy television execs who want predictable game times.
I was saying a large portion of people like it the way it is right now with unlimited OT till a winner is decided. Okay, go to a live game and tell me a shootout isn't exciting to fans. There's more casuals that like to see 1 on 1 because it's different and kind of fun.

I think Nintendo made shootouts more appealing to fans of my age more than unlimited overtime will ever be, as games should all be like Blades of Steel.

Do you even know why they step out of the batter's box?

They're getting signals, adjusting their gloves, gives the other coach time to shift the outfield/infield, whatever..

Trying to hurry that along would make the game demonstrably worse.

I think it's an ok idea if you limit it to the last minute of the game.

MLB

Allow players to throw their glove to stop a batted ball without 3-base penalty.

Giving and getting signals is a reasonable use of time. Adjusting batting gloves in between each pitch is absurd. Pitchers aren't the only ones to blame for games taking so long.
