NBA, players get a few steps before and after dribbling.

Then why don't you just propose a rule change to eliminate intentional walks?

I think the concept of this thread is to propose rule changes, not articulate existing rules

They typically get only a step before dribbling. Let's give them a running head start instead.

just do a quick rule change that the silly kickball league i play in uses. a 4-0 walk is two bases, every other iteration is still 1 base. so every batter has to be given at least 1 hit-able pitch, or at least 1 swing inducing pitch.

Not really a rule change but a change in the way stats are kept in football. It is completely ridiculous that the main stat QBs are judged on is TD passes when most of them are about what the receiver does after the catch. I watched every tOSU game last year and so many of Haskins TD passes were caught at or behind the LOS by speed burners. Mahomes was awesome and a pleasure to watch but lots of his TD passes were glorified hand offs. A screen pass when the QB throws it 0 yards and the RB runs through 2 tackles 25 yards for a TD shouldn't be a TD pass.

NFL needs to have official scorers who judge where a tackle should have been made and give the QB the yardage to that point. Or maybe any pass caught within 5 yards of the LOS is scored as a run. I don't know but I do know the way they keep stats for QBs now sucks. Also I have no problem when a ball goes off a WRs hands and is intercepted giving the turn over to the WR instead of the QB.

places like Football outsiders and nextgenstats have metrics that are somewhat close to that, like air yards, catch rate, expected completion percentage, aggression %, etc.

There are also passing charts for QBs you can look at.

dak would avg 20yds passing if they started counting yac like that. Distinguishing between td passes and passes that lead to td's is an interesting one though.

lol espn, but some interesting proposals:

-Allow goaltending on 3s
-Teams are allowed to choose the distance for the 3-point line on their home court
-Move the 3 point line every year to where shooters would shoot 33%:

Also, maybe they should bring back this rule:

Quote:
In 1950, to reduce roughness and deliberate fouling, the league added jump balls after every made free throw that occurred in the last three minutes -- as opposed to simply giving possession to the fouling team after the free throw.

That ESPN article is awesome. Suggestion 1 is incredible

Suggestion 4 is obviously ludicrous

Here's an idea that popped into my head the other day:

I get why charging is a necessary rule, but it's super annoying when dudes slide around and stand there like a dummy instead of actually trying to play defense.

So, make a rule that a successful dunk overrules any charge. You are out of control in the lane and blast into a guy, or stuff arm someone as you drive, fine, still a charge. But a guy slides to take a charge just outside of the restricted area and then gets yammed on, SORRY BRO should played some defense, two points and a poster

Then take away the free throws for the slightest bump from the defender on those thunder dunks too.

I can't remember too many times a charge has been called on a dunk.

It happens once in a while and it's a travesty

But also, if you institute this rule, people will try to dunk more knowing that they are protected against a charging call if successful

I don't think that's a reason people don't dunk.

Most players know that it's unlikely they will get an offensive foul if they dunk already.

It's a safety thing that stops them.

Dook basketball would cease to exist if you take away the ability for guys to slide around with no intention of playing D.

Breaking: The Indiana Pacers have moved the 3pt line at Bankers Life Fieldhouse to the concession stands.

just make them all 2 pointers again.. they will still shoot from far other there and it makes scores more manageable..

or if you wanted to really crunch it, just eliminate the corner three, have the three point line terminate at foul line extended. its silly to have a random 3pt spot where shooters shoot the best percentage on the whole court outside of 4 feet.

eta- read the article after talking about removing the corner three.. my apologies ..

Removing the three point line would be horri-bad. 00s ball will look good compared to it.

I like the removal of the corner three. I've even suggested it in this thread before.

Every time there is a shooting foul in nba the fouled team gets 24 second pop-a-shot to score as many points as they can.

How about accumulating those foul calls until the end of the game, and do your popashot contest in extra time like a penalty shootout?

Football (soccer) : 3 match ban for diving. Also 3 match ban after the game automatically if the ref didnt see it - diving issue would disappear immidiately.

Boxing - at least 6 judges instead of 3 - if its a world title fight. Also when the refree stops the fight the judges should have the power to overrule if its debatable (and it counts as a knock down only).

Basketball- teams can designate two players on the court as 3 point shooters. The other 3 players will have all field goals count as 2 points.

Dunks from these two designated 3 point shooters count as 4 points

Teams can also designate 1 player to be allowed to goaltend on 3 pointers.

To deter tanking, teams play for boonks.
