was BSing with someone today about crazy rule changes but thought a few were interesting:

1. add option of 4 point conversion following a TD. didn't decide on ball placement but i assume something like 30 yard line would be reasonable.

2. no punting in overtime. making decision to kick or receive tougher.

3. teams can trade all 3 of their timeouts for a first down once per game (in regulation only).

NBA Rule:

No more fouling out. No other sport takes their stars out of the game. They should instead change the foul limit to 5 fouls. Any foul after 5 fouls on a player would result in 2 shots and the ball.

I've mentioned it before... If a team doesn't use any of their timeouts in the 1H, they get an extra timeout in the 2H

Just what football needs - more timeouts.

Exactly...NHL has this right NBA and NFL should follow suit. 1 timeout per team a game. Theres already enough TV timeouts. Guy's don't know where to line up, the other team lines up to go for it on 4th, play clocks running down. Tough deal with it. NBA the other team's on a 10-0 run, play through it. All these guys have been playing organized basketball since they were about 5 years old, does the coach really need to stop the game and tell them what to do down 2 with 8 seconds left? As for MLB ban mound meetings with the catcher/infield and if a manager or pitching coach comes to the mound you must make a pitching change.

I'm totally down for less timeouts. Maybe three for the game? It would be worth it just for the LOLs when Fat Mike is out halfway through the first quarter.

Yeah I think 3 TOs per game would eliminate some of the pointless TOs in the first half. Would also require a little more strategy about whether to use TOs to try and score near the end of the first half.

For kickoffs, eliminate touchbacks. The kick must be returned. If the kick goes through the endzone on a fly, the receiving team gets it at the 40. If it bounces through the endzone, the receiving team gets it at the 10.

NBA

If you are fouled on a breakaway where it would have been a clear path foul had you not been shooting, it's still a clear path foul.

Since when is act of shooting a requirement for a clear path foul?

People get fouled from behind on breakaway layup attempts and it's never called clear path

I think this has some merit:

Quote:
Bill James, the godfather to sports analytics, was asked on the Moneyball reunion panel how he would fix baseball. His response? “Get rid of balks.” His rationale: It’s the equivalent of not having fast breaks in the NBA. Imagine if after every possession the defense was able to set up and gather itself on the other end. In baseball, you can’t just throw the ball and try to catch a batter off guard—you’ve got to wait. At a minimum, getting rid of balks would speed the game up and likely lead to a more entertaining product.

I'd maybe watch baseball if that happened just for the lolz. It's already hard enough to hit as it is though. Maybe I'm wrong when I think that rule would help the pitchers even more.

No time outs once a batter enters the box to start his at-bat. I like the no balks rule but also make any pick off attempt by the pitcher where he actually throws the ball count as a ball in the pitch count to the current batter unless the runner is picked off before he can reach a base safely.

Soccer- instant replays for diving only. There is a ref dedicated to constantly watching instant replays for diving and embellishing. If a player is found guilty, he is executed on the spot.
The method of execution is determined by an audience vote via a multiple choice control pad like the "ask the audience" thing on who wants to be a millionaire

Whenever the Pats win the Superbowl, they have an extra round where they have to beat a team of 22 Eli Mannings before they are crowned champions

The NBA sucks big time because of timeouts and fouls, and coaches/players incorporating timeouts and fouls in their 4th quarter strategy. I'd solve this by having a free-throw period after the 4th quarter where all free throws earned are thrown at the end of the game one at a time. This way, both teams play a full four quarters, and are still in the game until the end.

Wow man, really great suggestion. I can't think of a more exciting way for a game to end than a ******ed system of free throw shooting

My intentional base on balls suggestion:

Every team gets one IBB blocker per game - specified before the at bat - in which a 4-pitch walk is a 2 base walk. So let's say Bonds is coming up in the 8th with runners on 2nd and 3rd. SF could play their IBB blocker at that point. Now the other team has to throw Bonds at least one strike or risk walking in a run. If they get one strike over then they can IBB the rest. SF has no more IBB blockers the rest of the game.

In theory the # of IBB blockers could be tweaked or a 4-1 walk could also be included.

Also just to get it down itt - my overtime rule is similar to what exists now. Except if Team A scores on the first possession - Team B has to beat, not tie, Team A's score. So if Team A gets a FG, Team B needs a TD. If Team A gets a TD+1, team B can with with a TD+2.

If Team A has the balls to go for 2 and make it they win. But it will be exciting when they don't make it and are exposed to lose to a TD+1.

Otherwise if Team A doesn't score first - sudden death just like it is now.
