if it's 3 seconds to go A team just tied the game or took a lead by one if you can call a timeout before you dribble then you can advance the ball to halfcourt. it's in the NBA and should be implemented in college.

i know what the rule is. i'm saying that it would be like having an NFL team kick off from their own 2 yard line with less that 10 seconds to play. it's DUMB.

Soccer is fine. Variance fest endings to games suck.

+1, also only use "half the distance to the goal" when the penalty yardage > yards available - i.e. 15 yard penalty committed on own 20 puts you on the 5 instead of the 10

2. Baseball: 100% agree on less off days in playoffs, 3 man rotations are ridiculous. Move 1st round to 7 games.
plus one to everything in this post. love the FG idea, other ideas are obviously good

Change the rules for recording errors in baseball.

Flyball to LF and the fielder gets all disorientated and goes in circles and misses the ball. ERROR. You should not need to touch the ball for an error, which seems to be the practice.

The ones in the Outfield bother me the most. Use this benchmark. If the ball is catchable for an average outfielder 95% of the time, and the ball is not caught, give an error to the closest outfielder.

Also, we often see an outfielder break for a ball and have it his glove while he is in stride and he drops the ball. I'm really tired of the "well he had to go a long way there..." argument. Yes, but he did get there and the ball hit his glove, and he was upright and not diving when he attempted to catch it, and he was primarily moving across the field or diagonally across and towards the track, so why is this a hit??
I don't buy the argument that a slower player would not have got there.

player is upright (not diving)
in stride
not at wall
ball hits glove, but is dropped
ERROR

so would putting a lion on the court but that doesnt mean its smart. part of basketball is moving it from one end of the court to the other using means such as passing or dribbling (or running with it if youre labron).

Ensure the umpires call a correct strike zone.

At the MLB level we expect players to be able to hit, run and field and basically perform at top level or else they will be replaced by better players.

For umpires, we allow them to tailor "their own" strike zone. If an umpire can be consistent within his own strike zone (and most) are, then they should be able to adjust to the correct strike zone. If they can't adjust, they should be fired or sent to AA until the get it right.

I suspect most umpires would adjust pretty quickly.

Where else can you get away with an argument that an umpire is wrong, but he is so consistent in his wrongness that it is OK.

I'd love to see the refs in the NHL get reputations like...."oh Fred there is always good for a foot extra on any spot, but Bill there takes a foot back on most of his spots. But what the heck, at least they are consistent.

NFL: Decide what possesion (after receipt of a pass) means. In a way that everyone can understand.

Get rid of the charge circle in the NBA, it is stupid to begin with but the officals make it even worse by calling a foul on a defender who takes a charge inside the circle instead of making a no-call.

Don't allow teams to advance to half court on a TO in the NBA.

Baseball: run the bases clockwise.

Balances out 140+ years of bias against left-handed people.

I've suggested it before, but:

In NFL, make the player who scored the TD kick the XP.

That too. A blow to the head and contact to the head are two very different things.

Sick idea. You could make running clockwise or counter optional to the batter and the only force play exists after the hitter has crossed like 15 feet down the line.

Sick softball rule.

stop letting the awful NFC/AFC west host playoff games when they are 8-8/9-7 and 5 of the wins are in division, and still get a home game vs a 11-5 team

Touchbacks should be put on 10 yd line, rather than 20 yd line.

Get rid of punting.
