Last night Simms said all the backup QBs that had started this week did a good job although none of them had won, or at least kept their team in the game. I guess he didn't watch the Bears game

Clausen did a good job not turning it over, allowing them to punt every possession.

At some point during that game Simms honestly said if Clausen went 10 for 10 for 20 yards that would be a pretty good game so far.

I'm still confused on if you can recover an onside kick to start OT and then win on a FG?

Each team must possess or have the opportunity to possess the ball unless the team that has the ball first scores a touchdown on its initial possession.

...

» Opportunity to possess: The opportunity to possess occurs only during kicking plays. A kickoff is an opportunity to possess for the receiving team. If the kicking team legally recovers the kick, the receiving team is considered to have had its opportunity. A punt or a field goal that crosses the line of scrimmage and is muffed by the receiving team is considered to be an opportunity to possess for the receivers. Normal touching rules by the kicking team apply.

Maybe I'm too sensitive because stuttering runs in my family, but I've been noticing a bunch of the **** tier analysts saying "DID I STUTTER?!?!?" lately and it kind of bothers me. Deion said it more than once last night during pre-game for TNF, Stephen A. said it this morning, and Irvin said it on Sunday. Time to muster the PC police?

Bonds had the best "Did I stutter?" moment.

Irvin probably did. The guy can't complete a sentence without attempting to swallow his tongue.

I generally like Steve Mariucci but today he said twice that if the Colts don't start luck they should at least have him as the backup luckily Michael Irvin and Kurt Warner basically told him what an idiot he was and said if he's not good enough to start you just sit him you don't risk it and mariucci said well they might need a guy to come in and win the game Josh Johnson can't do that and they said No and then mariucci said well just to hand the ball off at least not realizing that Josh Johnson or anyone could do this. This guy was a coach.

Lowlights from today:

"Johnny on the Spot is the most overused cliche' ever".
- Ronde Barber

I realize this is subjective but c'mon, that doesn't make my top billion lame football cliché. I'm sure Ronde has uttered many of them.

I think Ron Pitts on the Rams game complimenting Gurley's IQ for going down. " In college it doesn't matter cause clock stops on 1st down ".

Does he not know that a college offense can run the clock after a 1st if they want?

It stops to move the chains, and it starts once the chains and ball are set. I wasn't aware the offense had any kind of choice to make?

well they have the choice to not snap the ball if they want it to run

which is why the comment was so stupid

It does seem weird that there aren't more ex-coaches in the booth. Like we got Madden and now Gruden, but who else is there?

Like why do Dungy, Mariucci, Edwards, etc. always wind up in the studio, instead of analyzing game time decisions?

Parcells, Walsh & Vermeil did games in the 90s but ya idk..

The ex-players get their stupid ultra conservative strategies from the same culture that's molded by coaches so I don't know that it'd be much different.

Booth work has to be considerably harder, and fewer jobs for ex jocks. So they all end up on a panel at espn, cbs, nfln where they can ramble on about nonsense.

They're old and like ARC said, it's easier

NFLN, NBC, and ESPN only have one crew also. ESPN always has to cobble together a second crew on Week 1. One year it was Mike and Mike for example, this year it was Berman and Dilfer.

Parcells was the only one worth listening to after he quit NYG.

Billick did games for a few years

I think it's also a matter of Q Score.

No one GAF about Billick so stick him in the booth. Troy Aikman? Could be on the set if he wanted. David Diehl? Not so much.

Personalities also drive ratings for the pregame coverage where with the booth it's the game itself. Ergo Billick's duty.

Before Madden got old and became a caricature of himself he was the undisputed GOAT TV analyst.

Mike Ditka never completes a sentence. He just trails off for a quarter-second with the last word and then jumps to the start of the next sentence.
