its sickening. Of course your team could sign peyton if they really wanted to find a way, but its just not reasonable for most teams. For me? Sign Peyton and make tebow fullback, hahaha

I don't understand what this new GM is thinking then. It would benefit Ponder and the Vikes to have Manning there. He isn't going to get younger than Ponder at the QB position unless he is planning on drafting another one which is lol. He's got 2 young QB's that have nobody to learn from. A top 5 RB with a capable O-line. Shiancoe at TE and Harvin in the slot if he can get on the field. Sign a #1 WR Wayne or V Jack, and fill in the rest through the draft this year. They've got good draft position to have multiple options at getting Manning weapons, in addition to other defensive needs.

Sounds like they are ready to roll with Ponder though. Maybe they've had enough of making big splashes in FA for older players after the Favre media circus, Moss, and McNabbs fail. That I understand. Even though the Favre experience got them to an NFC championship game.

I do like Ponder. He can play, but must stop the devastating turnovers.

It's not reasonable for most teams to gamble on what could be a top 3 QB? Knowing you don't have to sign him to a very long term deal?

Vikings defense except Allen is atrocious. They would probably not be a playoff team with Manning at 90%, or it'd be super close. Not worth setting your "franchise qb" back 3 years to go 8-8 or so in a tough division.

Would be pretty hilarious if the Vikes had Favre/McNabb/Manning in a period of 3 years.

I mean teams like the texans, or cowboys or maybe the ravens..ya I think they should easily stand pat. Id say a team like the Jets its reasonable for sure. I just think everybody is banking on a player being a top 3 qb when in reality he might go out and suck or get his neck fractured and you've pissed your season down the toilet and pissed off quite a few players. Also I was referring to everybody in here saying HES COMING TO MY TEAM BECAUSE OF " " when its terribly unlikely.

It's still "reasonable" for teams to bring in a guy who even if top 3 can't lead them to the rang due to the extra hooplah it would bring to the city/team and increased revenues.

It's far less reasonable from Manning's perspective but not from the team.

I really hope he goes to Zona. Would love to see Larry Fitz get a real qb throwing to him. PLus I feel for that franchise after the 08 superbowl loss.

I doubt he will get that much guaranteed... I think any contract he gets will be heavily incentive laden. Not sure how that works under the cap

Guys, be quiet a sec. Chris Berman is weighing in on Peyton Manning right now on Sportscenter.

I'm watching Cable Guy on StarzKF. Keep me posted on Berman's thoughts.

EDIT: I forgot about how big a tool he was being during that power outage. My god that was perhaps the nadir of Berman, which is impressive. The way he was talking you'd think he invented earthquakes or something.

It was before reminding everyone that he has been with ESPN since the 80's.

Mostly him being a total player apologist, as usual. Unfortunately, it was over the phone, so I couldn't watch his hand gestures. Still sounding like Jon Lovitz doing Harvey Fierstein, though, so that's cool.

I disagree obv. I think their defense can get back to respectability. Everything kind of snowballed on them last season. They lost some tough games early on, and then everything just fell apart. And, since when has Manning needed an amazing defense to make the playoffs? And, I definitely don't think it would hurt "franchise qb Ponder" to learn from one of the best.

This is all assuming Manning is close to what he used to be.

dlk, he's owned* ESPN since 1979. But he was reminding us all that he's only been able to control earthquakes since 1989.

Vikings could compete if they went hard in free agency and hit big on their first two picks. Peyton throwing to V-Jax/Harvin/Rudolph/AP would be sick. Front 7 is still good. Allen/Robison was probably a top 5 tandem last year. K-Will still gets pressure. Problem is they play in the GOAT division and Jamarca Sanford and Asher Allen don't belong on NFL rosters.

I was disappointed that he didn't change gears and get serious for a moment, reminding us all that there are things in life that are more important than sports, like earthquakes.

if manning's principle goal is winning, he absolutely won't sign with the vikings, jets or dolphins. either redskins, chiefs, broncos, 49ers or cards

if manning's principle goal is other, who knows where he goes
