I was thinking next 3-5 there will be marginal regression slightly more obv at the end, but you're free to be as optimistic as you like.

You can start by cherry picking anyone you want sure but that was not his best season.

Now go look at everyone else. I mean sure it's possible peyton has 5 or 6 more great seasons, but lots of things are possible!

Alex Smith needs to just sign with SF. How can he be sad a team went after the GOAT?

Re: Peyton Manning landing spot - it's Denver

If New England would agree I'd snap trade Tebow for Ryan Mallet in a heart beat. Don't like him personally since he transferred from Michigan but objective enough to think he could be a legit NFL QB. 6'6 with a big arm like a prototypical NFL QB. 4 years learning from Peyton and Denver has their next heir apparent.

Only reason I don't think this would happen is I just don't have any confidence that New England actually thinks Brian Hoyer is the legit heir apparent to Tom Brady if they drafted Mallet in the first place. And LOL at mentoring Tebow to play QB in the future. BB ain't that dumb.

Yeah, 33 TDs/7 ints and a 129 passer rating is turrible. As was his 119 at age 38.

But since apparently you've done the extensive research, please share your results.

Re: Peyton Manning landing spot - it's Denver

Arguing someone won't regress from 36-40 is not an argument you'll likely win.

That being said, as alluded to earlier, things might be different for the GOAT. Could regress at a different rate.. could continue as a top 5ish QB. Could fall off a cliff. Who knows.

I would tell you how good Marino and Montana and Elway were at 40 but they were retired by that age

It is pretty sad how the Patriots Dynasty has crumbled.

the new rules making it almost illegal to hit QBs will definitely help Peyton and other QBs from this era play a little longer. As well as the advancement of modern medicine.

I actually do like Peyton. His laser rocket arm commercial is goat. I just think the expectations people have for him are way too high.

Also his stats outside have always been a good bit worse than indoors...which people may just end up ignoring when looking at his season

I was really just referring to trying to teach a bunch of emotionally invested homers that all that glitters isn't gold.

Of course Peyton will regress, or course he will age. There's a non-zero chance that he still never plays again. Even if he does play, he's in what can reasonably be called the twilight of his career.

None of that matters though. Denver gets to watch him play for a few years, and just like 126 and the other idiots in the Offseason thread when it came to Garcon, sometimes you just have to let people play with their delusions.

I think most Denver fans have been pretty realistic about the risk.

Still very excited about taking on that risk, though.

Re: Peyton Manning landing spot - it's Denver

Pretty sure everyone knows Manning is going to regress and age, and that he's an injury risk. It's still okay for Denver fans to be excited about him signing with the Broncos.

I'm not really seeing much delusion from Denver fans ITT either, unless a bunch of people I was unaware of are Denver fans.

40 isn't what it used to be. Most of those guys wanted to retire while they were still playing at a high level, mostly concerned about still being able to walk when they're 50.

And I'm not denying regression happens at some point. But I believe Peyton's an outlier in terms of his conditioning and maintaining a high level of play, and has got at least 5 more great years in him. But I could be wrong (and often am).

Easy there Tiger, I've had a year to come to terms. As I said before, Peyton gave us 14 years, that's plenty. The Colts had to move on without him and he still (hopefully) has a few years left in the tank.

Indianapolis is a little weird about it's sports stars sometimes. We've been spoiled that some of our biggest names were "lifers". Peyton's earned the right to move on and I don't think I'm alone as a Colts fan in saying that I hope he does well.

Plus, my team is getting a 22 year old Peyton Clone, I'm not too worried. (Our new coaches suck ass though, you've got me there).

As well you should be. If he can throw, and it seems like he can, he's got to give DEN a decent shot for another 2-4 years. Would've liked to see him end up in SF where I'd have no issues rooting for him, but since the Colts likely have a few more years of sucking, and the Broncos are going to sign most of the ex-Colts, it makes for a pretty easy secondary team to root for.

Still, he's 36, and his nerves may never fully return to form (he did ok with some numbness for the two years prior to his surgery though, so who knows). Even if his spine fully heals, time is undefeated.

On the brightside for you, and all NFL fans, Tebow is dead, so barring some sort of odd resurrection, we're all rid of him.

Umm ya Tebow got screwed that's pretty obvious. And, yes Elway owed Tebow something after he wouldn't even buy into Tebow time until he started pulling miracles... and even then nope he sucks. So, actually yeah good for Tebow at least he'll go somewhere he is wanted, and Elway can jack it to Peyton every Sunday.

This is a business??? and Tebow puts fans in the seats, has them glued to the TV, and creates a media frenzy. From a business standpoint thats a cop out excuse.

Of course he doesn't owe Tebow anything. His job is to give DEN the best chance to win games. Tebow does not do that.

He owes Pat Bowlen and he owes Denver fans to put the best product on the field.

If only Elway had someone lined up for DEN that might also "put fans in the seats"...
