not sure about this. part of mcgahee's renaissance was due to Tebow being a threat to run as the defense had a spy on him on almost every play

it will be very interesting to see if the running game holds up next year

Anyone have a good timeline guess on when Tebow is traded?

I think Tebow for Ryan Mallett makes sense.

True about the spy. However, I felt like most teams were throwing 8 and sometimes 9 guys in the box against Tebow. It didn't help that Fox's play-calling, except for the PITT playoff game, was markedly uninspired.

Given the fear a healthy Peyton will inspire in D coordinators and the flexibility it will give DEN's playcallers, I doubt McGahee will be looking at 8+ man boxes this year, which should compensate for the extra attention that Tebow drew in the form of a spy.

the only way Pats trade Mallett for Tebow is if they have figured out Mallett is a complete goofball, in which case nobody should want him. BB's record of evaluating his own guys is pretty legit. The only ones he arguably let go too soon are guys he decided he couldn't pay absolutely top dollar for anymore (Asante, Seymour) so there were factors beyond a straight eval

I think running the option helped in that if let mcgahee get his carries in more favourable positions after tebow would read the D and decide to run himself or hand-off.

just using profootballreference, there's 26 seasons where a 36+ QB has had at least 3K yards and at least 20 TDs. that's not very many.
Those stats apply to mere mortals, not Peyton.

Or another way of saying it is, how many of those other guys were throwing for 4,000 yards and winning league MVP at age 34?

Garrard signs with Miami, just heard it on Sirius NFL Radio, some female Miami football writer apparently broke the story.

Seems decent enough, you basically have the "after Peyton" guy in place/can see if he's as good as initially predicted before he fell in the draft. Assuming Elway can help develop QBs it's a decent trade for Denver imo but I'd rather wait on JAX or tell BB they are in talks with them at least.

If Peyton gets injured game 6 or so what's your plan?

Yup.

I mean would suck if he goes down and we're 6-0 or something.. but at that point can salvage something.

Seriously if he gets hurt they can play me for vet minimum and lose out for Barkley. Tebow still gone.

Yes I mean if he gets hurt and they are not in a top draft pick hunt.
Edit: Also tend to agree that Mallet is kind of a lemon market spot, if BB offers him I probably don't want him and just use the offer as leverage talking to JAX. Pretty sure whoever is in charge in Denver should just call the new JAX owner and talk to him directly and tell him how much sense Tebow would make because he'd fill seats etc...once that seed is planted in his head it'll be very hard for his GM to talk him out of it imo

"We want a first rounder + X because after all we drafted him in the first round and he lead us to the playoffs" then hope naive owner donks it up. If need be you can retreat to "just a first rounder but only because we want the best spot for Tim as well and it's a unique win/win...otherwise we'd never take less than first+X". That also subtly puts pressure on said donk-owner to not be a dick towards Tebow (if it somehow leaked he rejected giving Tim a shot people in JAX may be mad etc. pp).

I dunno if we're 6-0 or 5-1 or something just sign someone.. plenty of FA's available.

Not like Tebow being here will help.

edit: Trade a 5th for Orton, actually!

Why is it speculated that Tebow will end up in Jacksonville? I could see that being said before Chad Henne was signed but it becomes highly unlikely that they would waste that much cap space to pay all three of those quartbacks, adding in the fact that the reign of GM will be determined on the success of Gabbert would make it terrible to give up on him after one regular season without a proper off season.

News from inside Denver is saying they had two very clear plans on FA based entirely on the Manning situation.

I'm really excited to see where they go from here. Should still have like 24 million or something to spend without any restructuring at all.

Basically.. I can see them saying Mike Wallace is a complete waste with Tebow.. but now make it worth it with Manning.

Also potentially Clark/Saturday.

I think saturday is a lock. Although Walton played well and it would be a shame to just cut him, hes pretty young i think? I think they need to sign clark, but i dont see the point in stokely, hes just too old. They also need a slot reciever, really interested to see where they go.

It's a shame they couldn't get Freeney as well. Would be nice to see what the old Colts and new Colts would look like at the same time.
