just using profootballreference, there's 26 seasons where a 36+ QB has had at least 3K yards and at least 20 TDs. that's not very many.
I've never been happier to be put in my place on something.

i'm kinda mad and also sorta hoping for a career ending injury that doesn't affect his quality of life too much

Manning also has like 10 straight 4000 yard seasons and hadn't missed a game in college or the nfl until last year. I'd be shocked if he finished with less than 3000 yards or 20 touchdowns in his any year where he plays 12 games. And I think his risk of reinjury I'd being greatly exaggerated. It's not like he had previously unsuccessful spinal fusion surgeries and by all account this one was successful.

I hear they want to trade Tebow for Ryan Mallett on the radio...Not a big fan of this trade. Would rather hope for a 2nd rounder or better.

Tebow.

We'll see if Peyton "Barrabas" Manning can do the same

Manning is such a team player, showing decent interest in signing with San Fran, so now Smith can throw a small fit and want more money. What a way to reward your agent and agency teammate.

Not sure about the source. Just heard it on the Fan 104.3 here in Denver. Something about Josh McD wanting Tebow and willing to do a flat trade for Mallett.

but you can't put qualifiers on it like that, at least not without making your prediction worthless. one reason why QB's have not put up great numbers past X years old is b/c injury risk increases with age.

That seems like a good trade for the Broncos. Mallet can learn under Peyton then take over the reigns. I actually don't like it as a Pats fan as I was hoping for the same here under Brady.

but then they could take Mallet and see what they could get for him from Miami assuming Smith doesn't go there

Tebow for Mallett actually a pretty good idea. With Peyton there, I don't see them really using a gimmick package at all for Tebow. The Pats will probably use him for 8-10 plays a game in some way at least. Denver will also get an actual backup who can run the offense as designed for Peyton Manning, at least better than Tebow could.

Tebow's going to resurrect football in Jacksonville and that's all there is to it

I really hope this is the case where Jacksonville overpays for Tebow and Denver gets a good draft pick out of it. I'm not hating on Mallett but I still like Tebow and I don't want to hate him if he turns to the dark side by joining Belichick's evil empire.

Who cares about Mallett at this point. Let's go all in for Peyton. No backup at all. If he gets hurt game 1 we can go for Barkley.

Not if Tebow doesn't get traded you won't.

Unless Barkley pulls a Locker.

That's what I mean.. trade Tebow for whatever.. gain some weapon for Manning. If he goes down put in me at QB and draft Barkley.

Manning -- if healthy gives us extremely legitimate SB equity. So need to do everything we can to increase that. Whatever we can get for Tebow is the way to go. Not some backup we can develop in case. This team isn't good enough without Manning. Then if it implodes whatever.. we took a shot and moved past the Tebow era. Wins all around.

Well to be clear I think manning will play at least 4 years and won't have injuries related to his neck that make him miss games. Obviously I could be wrong but I think 2p2 overestimates his reinjury risk due to age and forgets that he took very few sacks behind a much weaker o line than he will be behind now. He won't get hit a lot and his neck is a lot less likely to be an issue now that he had the surgery that he did. I think he can return to form and be a top 5 qb.

Denver's running game should also be more effective now that they have a legitimate throwing weapon at QB. Obviously they lose Tebow's running, but McGahee should be better and he enjoyed a bit of a career renaissance last year.
