What does "ending the football" program accomplish that "burning everyone responsible at the stake" (which I'm wholly in favor of) doesn't, except punish a bunch of people who were NOT responsible?

I would think Meyer would have stayed at UF if he really wanted to coach. There really isn't a college job out there that is any better.

This seems like the best course of action, to me. None of the staff is going to be there with a new guy next season anyway, might as well purge everyone and try to let the players finish this season with a tiny, miniscule shred of dignity.

Worst possible outcome for Michigan who relies on poaching Ohio and WPIAL recruits. You have someone who immediately will be able to shore up those connections.

I'd think they would try to turn it over on an interim basis to someone who had no ties whatsoever to Sandusky, ie, someone who was never on staff when he was, if that person even exists. It might be the strength and conditioning coach, though.

LOL...who cares if they are affected. Penn State football was directly used, with the highest "powers" of being's knowledge, to rape 10 year children. And not just a couple...probably as many as 20.

Also, Penn State's recruiting is going to go way down. I have already heard a few top recruits considering Penn State basically saying "yuck, I don't want to play for child rapists."

The OSU reporter's twitter feed that was linked a few posts back seem to indicate that Meyer would be interested. Don't know how accurate that guy is though.

Just re-quoting - Kim Jones interview is very eye-opening, but reading the actual charges (and description of Sandusky's crimes) is just brutal and terrifying. Considering it seems every single one of his acts was highly opportunistic, that he was impulsive and almost got "caught" many times, and was basically around little boys his entire life... I'd agree with the poster who mentioned Sandusky's victims could number in the 100s. This is seriously so ****ed up.

I like Oski - the only problem I have is that (it seems) he was clarifying the legal POV for Paterno's actions without all the facts. IANAL... but it seems possible Paterno could actually face criminal charges at this point?

Actually would be intereresting to hear an updated POV on this: with what Paterno knew, as a University employee, who are held to much higher standards than your average citizen... with what he knew in 1998 and 2002, especially 2002, could he be legally culpable?

Pretty sure the NCAA would give those players free transfers. Plenty of solid football programs in the state of PA to go to...I don't know...maybe the 11th ranked team in the nation(in d2)...notably...Kutztown University?

Yeah true. This is a pretty good path to getting everything out there though and everyone blown up from both the football and administrative side of the school.

Plus it opens up the door for Paterno turning against the AD/VP/President and blowing up what actually happened (while distancing himself obviously, but whatever the damage is done to him).

Well the university as a whole will be screwed if they eliminate the program. I know plenty of schools operate without a major money-grabber like PSU does, but when you've relied on it for 40 years like they have, it would be pretty tough to learn to live without it.

PSU fans still think they're gonna get Urban Meyer. Well I got some news for ya...
