Is PSU better off in 10 years if they had a 1-2 year death penalty, or this? This seems more long-term damaging. I guess a permanent death penalty would have been better, but that wasn't going to happen. PSU will be back, but they'll pay a heavier price than 1 year without football.

And you don't understand the mentality of top football fans - sure, Illinois fans can enjoy a 0 win season. This season, where Ohio State has a legit chance for 10 wins, is basically something that doesn't even register as football. The difference between this and sitting out a year means very little to me. Being able to compete for a title in 2013 and dominate is the only reason I care about this season at all. PSU fans would just forget about football a year, spend some time rebuilding, then be back. This hits them for a longer period of time, where they have to keep looking at next season as another season of getting crushed.

I've been very negative towards the NCAA over the past year+. So I think it is important to acknowledge when they so something positive and that I agree with. I think this punishment is solid. I don't know what else can be done to destroy the symbol that Joe Paterno was but vacating wins at least means that he should no longer show up on All-time wins list in the top 10.
