OK Karak, this rips it - I'm sticking with my prediction from yesterday that Sandusky gets convicted on 32 counts.

In the 1980's I coached recreational school teams, grades 5 to 8. These were often mixed teams (the unskilled kids) I drove kids to and from games and never allowed just one child to be in my car.
Was in BC but all the parents understood my concerns about appearances. Was a foster parent too at that time so maybe I was more vigilant.
I find it hard to believe that the adults in that area were so ignorant of child sexual abuse.

My guess is guilty on 42 counts.

Do you think the courts will force joinder on the variety of civil suits surely to follow. Currently engaged in a heated argument with my gf about this.

It really is mind-boggling. Not even after outright allegations and odd, poorly explained occurrences? So many wtf moments involved.

BDidd maybe you should start a Rick Reily appreciation thread after this. Or maybe an anti-MJ legalization thread in politics. Then you can go defend FTP's poker celebrity pay scale.

Yes, all over North America there were cases that were so public. Some were witch hunts but the awareness was there. They turned a blind eye, I have little doubt.

So, sorry but YOU ARE WRONG.

Another thing you are wrong about is that it isn't my school. This has been covered before a few times.
Stop flaming anyone! All you're doing is adding fuel to the fire. And if people's reactions are outsized, you know, this is one of those situations where I don't really blame them or think it's even remotely productive to encourage them to be more rational. Ask yourself this: What makes you the defender of Penn State? What do you expect to achieve by flaming people who are venting their anger about this entire situation? Do you feel like this is some righteous cause you're undertaking?

You should. Your posting is deliberately non-constructive.

If you didn't want this to be about you, you wouldn't have volunteered as Penn State's white knight in this thread. Someone else said you were a lightning rod for the invective people want to direct to Sandusky-- but you have chosen to be. If you don't want the thread to be about you, stop. Just stop. It is within your control.

God I hope McCann is right. I just don't have faith in these sheep that are the jury.

I was thinking more along the lines of she can't bear to be a part of the travesty that's about to unfold.

this ainefc. I'd argue that prior to this story breaking, JoePa was revered by a large percentage of college football fans.

Hell, the only people I knew of who had much negative to say about Paterno before the scandal were Penn State fans who thought he was hanging on too long and being too obviously a figurehead uninvolved in the actual running of the team.

Your post has very little to do with mine. I'm talking about previous allegations, including one in 1998. Before the public knew. I'm talking about parents, school counselors, and school administrators being either incompetent or covering up for Jerry. The kids with no shoes on. The accusations of scared, abused young boys silenced by all of the adults around them. All of this happening over a decade ago all the way up until the case went public.

My friend has hated Paterno with borderline pathological intensity since junior high. Needless to say he was pretty worked up about this. Basically felt like it validated 30 years of people calling him crazy.

Well nothing sustains a man like resentment. Bet he's like, "I TOLD YOU MOTHER****ERS!!!"

Concentrating on popular perception, early last football season, I found this picture hilarious:

Especially how his nameplate looked like it was made of sand blowing away in a heavy wind. People minded, and this is non-Penn State fans in SE!

Well you lost me then. My point was that most people in the 1980's knew that sexual abuse of children was a real thing, (I was referencing the ridiculous charges where people were accused of ritual satanic abuse, which was never proven as far as I know) with what was reality. That people like Jerry existed and children were vulnerable

Oh, okay, then.

Your post reminds me of a case in a documentary. A Catholic priest is sheltered by his higher-ups and gets away with molesting young boys... aided by the church.

Here is a description. It's called Deliver us From Evil. I'm pretty sure it can be streamed on Netflix.

well, he's kinda right.

I'm sure there were PSU'ers who thought paterno should've retired a few years ago, but before this, those statements were prefaced with something like "I love JoePa and always will, but..."

Now, guess what? If there's a hell, I'm pretty sure he's in it.

aura, yes, they knew. All those adults knew about sexual abuse of children. My point was there was no way they could not be aware. It was all over the news. They turned a blind eye
