Even without yet knowing all the details of what went down throughout the cover-up, we have learned a LOT about Joe Paterno just from his actions this week.

We've learned that he is an oblivious clown. (From the ridiculous statements he released, most notably the one where he tried get out in front of the BoT, like he was going to fool anyone with an IQ above 60 with that stupid bull****).

We've learned that he is incredibly selfish. (For not graciously stepping down when asked, which would have directly prevented the rioting which damaged property and more importantly the reputation of the school and students he supposedly cares so much about. Of course, not stepping down when asked is not a recent phenomenon for him, either.)

We've learned that he is a coward. (For refusing to address the media, even without the crutch of representing PSU, and for doing what everyone else who isn't a Paragon of Virtue and Integrity, including Sandusky himself, does in a situation like this: hide out and lawyer up.)

And don't give me this bull**** about how he's an 85-year-old man who's out of touch with reality and possibly suffering from dementia. If that's the case, all that does is show that he should have gracefully stepped down 15 ****ING YEARS AGO AND MAYBE THEN COUNTLESS CHILDREN WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN RAPED.

Joe Paterno's legacy should be that he was a selfish, cowardly, disgraceful, fraud, who also won a huge amount of football games and donated a ton of money to some POS school out in BFE Pennsylvania to sufficiently bribe them so that he could exercise control over the entire university to further his own interests all the way to the grave and beyond.

And yes I am confirmed mad.

Didn't he at one point come out and say after his weekly press conference was canceled that he still wanted to go through with it, but the president canceled it, not him? It's just another example of him and his advisers doing whatever it takes for JoePa to look good, the truth be damned

This. Paterno displayed less dignity than even Sandusky did when confronted by the media this week.

Sandusky (the child rapist) plainly said, himself, not hiding behind a lawyer or a family member or a statement, "I'm lawyering up and they've instructed me not to comment." Honest and as dignified as possible, given the (extreme) circumstances.

Paterno (Mr. Integrity) straight up lied to everyone about how prepared he was and how badly he wanted to address the media, but Penn State wouldn't let him. Then that lie became exposed when he no longer had the crutch of representing Penn State. And, even now, Friday morning, when MSNBC is reporting he has hired a high-powered defense attorney, Paterno, through his son, like the coward he is, is claiming not to have hired anyone.

I'm talking about what he should do in terms of what someone with an ounce of integrity, which he claims to have, would do. Which, while not optimal, would have included saying, "I'm lawyering up and have been instructed not to comment," 72 hours ago. You know, like the child rapist did.

Still dont understand the people talking about the collateral damage that innocent people unfortunately would have to face. you do realize that there are multiple solutions to issues, and some of those do not negatively affect the innocent.

All - do you have a sense of how the general public is viewing this? Obviously everyone posting ITT is very on top of this story, much more so than say, your sister, or your Mom. I've only really talked about this in-depth with friends who might care (basically guys who follow CFB) and it came up of course at my poker night last night (but also basically guys who follow CFB).

My sense is that there are so many facts out there, the casual observer of the events unfolding is somewhat confused/ignorant of what went down (my female friend expressed her dismay that Paterno raped a bunch of little kids), and of course in general, PSU comes off quite badly.

However, I think that despite the many idiotic steps on their part, the PSU BoT is coming off rather well, and has helped right the ship in the court of general public opinion by firing Spanier/Paterno.
