Maybe 2004. They shouldve been national champs but paterno was a nice guy and didn't run up the score on indiana.

there's a report that paterno lawyered up with a criminal defense attorney, but i dont think that means anything. it's just smart to protect yourself at this point with everything flying around even if you sincerely think you didnt do anything criminally wrong.

he sure as hell got a high powered one, but i think anyone in his position, innocent or not, would too.

Does Penn State have any alum that is extremely well respected and not tied to this that could address the crowd before the game? Because if something did happen the school would look terrible.

Anyone have the youtube of Disco Night?
Joe Paterno would be the best bet. Not joking.

Read the comments of the sister of alleged victim.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31751_16...ng-sanduskied/

Highlight "Joe [Paterno], I think, did what he was supposed to do and was focused on his team. I never blamed him."

Among other things of this insane episode, that quote has to be one of the worst.

I can't see the administration let him get on a microphone in front over 100k boozed up fans. Without even meaning to he could cause a riot.

The internet has to be the only place where people unassociated with crimes are more upset with some of the people associated than the victim's family.

I've seen this in the thread several times with no link anywhere. The only time I am aware that the BoT asked Joe to resign was in 2004, nothing about asking him to resign since this scandal hit. Does someone have a link to the BoT asking him to resign recently?

I must think very few people actually know and understand the implications of the facts of the case, possibly even including the victim's sister. Your Average Joe isn't going to get on the intarwebz and find and then read the 23-page grand jury report and then spend hours pondering its implications.

I have to think all those people are just stupid or ignorant of the facts. They can't all be that evil.

I mean... at the risk of repeating myself... this is really standard in central PA among PSU fans, students and alumni. It's an indoctrination that starts from Day 1 of your life.

I can understand people who are hardcore fans of teams (I certainly understand that as a huge sports fan myself), especially college teams, getting delusional and overlooking something their favorite coach or player may have done: recruiting scandal, paying off players, taking gifts, cheating on their wives, getting in a fight, robbing a liquor store, loose connection to a murder (some Ray Lewis for you, Baltimore).

But this is just on another level. It's a systematic and continuous crime of the highest depravity targeted at completely defenseless victims committed over more than a decade. How they are overlooking this in their rabid fandom is a bit of a scary reveal into the psyche of the lifelong, hardcore PSU fan. I think there are plenty of other schools too where this culture could exist, but I think PSU is probably one of very few (or perhaps the only) school where they worship a single figure/deity who has been in control and command for their entire lifetimes and, for some people, their parents' entire lifetimes. That just adds the extra layer there and this scandal implicates that universal figure. He dominated PSU, central PA and college athletics as a whole. What other names can stand beside him in terms of legendary status and longevity in the history of American sport? Bear Bryant?

From scanning the wiki page, the best I saw was the dad from Modern Family...

Edit: Worst choice.....Rick Santorum.

Pretty sure alcohol is not sold at any college football stadiums.

Except West Virginia.

LOL West Virginia.

Also, sports help the healing process for tons of people whether you like it or not.
the problem exists within college sports programs, wherein these programs rely on their teams to provide for all the other departments salaries, research funding, etc.

At first i thought it would work, but I really think that would be a huge slap in the face to the victims. 106,000 people cheering the guy whos failure to act allowed them to get raped would be pretty gross.

Anyone else?

True... there are many of these kinds of fans for any major university.

I still have no idea what that has to do with my statement though.

Of course, if Joe Paterno actually cared about anyone besides himself, his behavior this week would have been a lot different.

I prefer to think he's just an elderly man who can't hear **** and long ago lost touch with reality.
