I didn't know anything about the Dr. Robert Anderson/University of Michigan rape scandal until watching HBO's Real Sports segment earlier today. Now I just saw a news headline that Bo Schembechler's campus status has been vandalized (it has been credibly alleged that Bo knew). UM's president won't even meet with a victimized former UM football player from the 70s who has been living in a tent across his front lawn for months now seeking an audience.

Over a 1,000 former student-athletes have come forward saying they were raped by Dr. Anderson. There's a current associate AD who was a trainer I believe in the 70s and 80s who used to laugh at players when they were sent to see Dr. Anderson joking that they would be bending over and dropping their pants soon.

People say PSU's program needs to be "nuked from space". Where is the outcry to nuke UM's program from space? We hear cries of "Joe knew". Where are the cries that "Bo knew"?

Ohio State has a horrible, shameful scandal of their own as well. It’s pretty incredible that most lose that sense of righteous indignation when them chickens come home to roost. It’s basically been crickets.

Ya I mean it's super obvious if what happened at psu happened at another big school fans of that school would have the same reaction of being defensive. All the people who attack Penn state swear up and down that they wouldn't or it would never happen at their school. It's fair to attack those people for being hypocrites even if the finger is being pointed by someone who did the same thing (whataboutism doesn't absolve them for being shitty but doesn't make their point invalid).

The only correct response is to completely disavow your school, never support or root for them again. Anything else and you are part of the problem and deserve any hate you get.

I never made excuses for the criminals or the enablers. I did for a portion of the fan base that were realistic about what happened.

Like 90% of human beings do the same thing ... cover up, toe the party line, protect the institution, whether it be the school, the church, the hospital. If you don't you get fired or overruled and the same thing happens anyway. It's a nightmare not easily faced and too much is at stake. Right at this point denial clicks in ... and the status quo is maintained, the perps allowed to continue. Tragic state of affairs. Not sure it bears hating on the institution in perpetuity ... once the guilty are gone anyway.
