Why the **** would anyone OVER 25 know who the **** this guy is?

I'm 32 and know a hell of a lot about sports and I've never even heard his name in passing.

Now I'm thinking about an event where you have to run 26 miles while carrying a giant anvil. A World's Strongest Man Marathon might be the best thing ever. You'd be allowed to put the anvil down and rest, as you needed to, but you'd have to pick it back up before you could continue on. Over/under on how long the race would take?

I certainly would've locked this exact OP coming from anyone but David.

I did rename the thread to mock him though.

It was prescient of Anderson to write www.oldtimestrongman.com on his lifting board.

That's just how far ahead of his time he really was.

He "probably" made the lift.

This would be a great event. Obviously, how long it would take would depend on the weight and shape of the anvil (they usually make these things awkward to carry).

It they used the same sort of weight that they use in strong man competitions, I think it would take 3 days to finish, but if they cut the weight by a third, it might take 8 hours. (these numbers are pure speculation).

Largest small-mouth bass ever caught. 11 pounds, 15 ounces.

Monumental AND non-trivial!
I still say this is more crucial.

For that reason alone the strongest men might attempt it if they thought they had a chance to make that claim. The fact that no modern day strongman has done it suggests that they don't think they have a chance.

As for the specific 6270 lift of Paul Anderson, I read that it was probable. If it didn't happen, he almost certainly came close on other occasions. There is no doubt whatsoever that in all around pure strenght he was far ahead of his adversaries. They didn't have powerlifting contests back then but if they did he would have won by HUNDREDS of pounds. He wouldn't have quite won present day contests but he wasn't taking drugs.

He is still likely to be the strongest man who ever lived off drugs and the man who lifted more weight than any other person. More people should have heard of him.
I cannot understand why Sklansky is allowed to make these ridiculous threads where he is basically trolling various subforums, and the rest of us get banned for rightfully calling Dschmeidru a ******.

Kyle, if you read ATF, specifically Pokerbob's thread about infractions, the proper way to call someone a ****** would be to use the following sentence structure: You would be less of a ****** if ... I hope that helps.

Dudd,

Setting aside all else, there is 90% chance that Paul Anderson lifted more weight than any other human ever has and at least a 60% chance that he lifted more weight than any human has henceforth been capable of lifting. Change that to 95% if you don't count steroid users.

It is important to realize thatAnderson became much stronger after winning the Olympic Gold Medal in his youth. But he became a professional so he couldn't defend his title. There is no doubt that his personal bests were way more than the official powerlifting records until about ten years ago. There is no doubt that the difference between him and the second strongest guy of his time was greater than in any other sport ever.

There is also no doubt that anyone who has not heard of them can only blame their own ignorance rather some technicality involving a specific lift not meeting the Guiness book of World Record standards.

lol. Our own ignorance? This coming from someone who is speaking of a world record lift that "probably" took place.

yes, I suppose that you could call the non-occurrence of an event a "technicality."

I can’t believe a man who fancy himself as a great logical believes this record probably happened. If he could do it, there’s no reason for him no to do it before a couple of journalist or something. The man was a professional lifter after all. It’s like believing the story about the nba baller who uses to warm up by picking up coins at the top of the backboard
