Paul Anderson's Fifty Year Old "World Record" Paul Anderson's Fifty Year Old "World Record"

For some strange reason few members of the younger generation know about this monumental record or the man who holds it. It involves an athletic achievement that is neither trivial nor esoteric. And it is far from a fluke (like Steve Oneil's 99 yard punt.) The man who holds this record held many others at one time.

It is true that this athletic "event" is not often engaged in. So the bigger, stronger, faster, athletes nowadays, may not have attemted to break it. Except that it probably doesn't matter. They almost certainly couldn't! That's how far ahead of the rest of the field this man was at the time he was competing. 50 years or more. I think that is completely unheard of in any sport. Bob Beamon, Babe Ruth, and Walter Johnson are probably closest to him. And they are all famous. Why isn't this guy?

I am curious if there is anybody out there under 25 who knows who I am talking about without doing any research. Please don't give it away if you are not in that category.

Largest small-mouth bass ever caught. 11 pounds, 15 ounces.

Monumental AND non-trivial!

I don't know the answer to the OP, but WikiAnswers says that the record for longest urination is 508 seconds, which I find very hard to believe.

Nope. The world record in the mile has been broken repeatedly since Bannister in 1954. It's around 3:43 now.

LOL at this reading comprehension. (David said that Babe Ruth, Walter Johnson, and Bob Beamon all had records that lasted nearly half a century, like our mystery man. We aren't trying to guess what these 3 people all had in common, since it was implied to be their fame)

I was thinking don Bradman’s insane test average of 99 but then you said it hasn’t been widely practiced for fifty years. Is it Jesse Owens and the standing long jump
