FWIW, I prefer college football to the NFL, but it really has nothing to do with the complexity of the games. The NFL to me seems like a less open game, mostly because the players are such better athletes and the NFL game overall is so scheme and play dependant. College is just this free wheeling offensive game going against defenses that are usually not that good. With the rivalry's added in, I like the overall more organic feel to the game as opposed to the corporate feel the NFL has. Plus the rule changes that speed up the clock fit in with my ADD mentality.

Meant to mention that too. NFL players wearing helmets aren't quite personified as much as an NBA player who is out there for all to see, one of ten on the court instead of 22 in the field. Most (white) people have a hard time identifying with a tatted-up Carmelo Anthony but can envision themselves as Peyton Manning, even if both are the same person away from the sport.

David Stern is basically a POS but his thing about their mandatory off-court attire was addressing this and is probably a good idea for marketing reasons.

I think people identify with football more as well. The whole "glory days" of high school. Not to mention football has allowed its fanbase to "effect" the game more than any other sport. The loudness of fans at stadiums can cause communication problems(though not as much as fans would like to think). I guess its equivalent of basketball fans at the freethrow line as well. So maybe I'm wrong, just throwing it out there.

Well the offensive side of the ball in college has more talent. You only have "20" hours a week to work with these kids. So the best athletes are usually put on the offensive side of the ball and the coaches then spend more time working with those kids. Now when you get to the NFL only the best of the best make it so you don't have that same problem.

Edit: And there is no limit to how long a coach can spend with their players.

This is quite funny. You sound like the "purists" who insist that women's basketball is better than men's. When you start talking about the "beauty" of the game, then you aren't talking about sports anymore, but art. Personally, I like watching the best players in the game, so I prefer the NBA (although I watch all basketball).

As already been said, between the uniforms "hiding" the players and the higher ratio of white to black in the NFL, the average white man can relate better to the NFL. There definitely exists some underlying racism in some of the hate of the NBA though, just as there is with Tiger Woods, although it is difficult to quantify. I'm sure many don't even realize their racist views, since they feel they can easily explain their dislike without race.
