That’s the deal with links courses. If the weather is calm, they can tear it up

They have to be at least somewhat playable in 40 mph winds, which means you can't have the greens stimping at 15. So when its calm they can get easy.

shouldn't be a surprise, he performs well in just about every tournament of golf which has the guts to invite him

Is it coming home?

And if so, will Westwood drink chocolate pudding out of it?

If Westwood pulls it off it will be the greatest major championship win since Andy North.

Old and Young Tom Morris are rolling in their graves with how easy this course is playing today.

That was unfortunate for Darren Clarke. Bogey to make the cut, maybe a double gets him in, but 3-putts for a triple to drop to +3.

Please Bubba bogey 18 and miss the cut. He grinds on me just like Hellmuth.

Hefty has to be regretting that trip to the sweat lodge. Wouldn't you want to schedule that a week after the major?

Leebo can practically taste it now with his insatiable appetite for victory

There’s a great sound bite of a Steve Elkington recap from when Bubba threw multiple profanity grenades at his playing partners and the gallery when he thought someone talked during his swing at the Zurich Classic. Elk told him to be a pro and Bubba told him veterans could kiss his ass.

Apparently Elk threatened him on course so after they finished officials suggested he apologize. He went in and told Bubba if he saw him in the parking lot he was going to dismantle him. I used to have the audio of Elk describing what went down and it’s Radio HOF-worthy with BW crying and hiding behind officials.

Here’s a taste from the Golf Digest write-up:

Afterward, Elkington and Watson settled their differences in the scoring hut. They were playing with Shigeki Maruyama who emerged from the glass-walled tent with his usual smile, bobbing and weaving like Sugar Ray Leonard. "Big problem," Shigeki said as he walked away.

Elkington, who finished the day three shots off Briny Baird's lead of eight under par, left without speaking to the media. Watson, on the other hand, apologized to virtually anyone who wasn't moving, as it were. He said he and Elkington had "hugged it out."

"I want to apologize to everybody in the tournament," Watson said. "Everybody who heard it, whoever saw it, especially Steve and Shigeki and their caddies. I heard something and I took it out on them and shouldn't have done it. I apologize to the tournament, to anybody that's involved in this tournament, all the volunteers, all the caddies, the spectators, the kids that came out here.”

He had missed 7 cuts already this year so the diet probably isn't why he struggled but it definitely was a bad idea and didn't help him out.

Between the poor results and the extreme diet phil was a really easy fade this week , I got +200 on him to miss the cut.

Let that be a lesson to you son... concentrate as much on those one footers as you do on those ten footers.

Good interview by Rory. Sometimes these guys forget how spoiled they are, and that's a good thing. No different than the rest of us.

Looked up Nicklaus, he missed 4 cuts in majors in his first 25 years, nearly 100 tournaments. In Masters he missed one cut in first 33 tournaments.

So weird that Rory shoots 80 with 40-something under par wasn't it on day 1? (Actually I think the 40 players under par was halfway thru round 2.)

Yep I'm thinking he's like that putt back.

Can't help but like Rory though he seems to have good perspective.

Indeed. Faced the media and told them just how much it hurts to come up just short... and having the chance to play 36 more holes in front of such a supportive crowd.

one of the downsides of being a fan of one of the world's premium golfers is that you usually have to wait a long time for them to tee off
