With 20-30mph wind, I can see -8 winning this outright tommorow.

D3:

Carnoustie is CarNasty, imo, because tee to green it's covered in hazards. It's a morass of par 4s that strike at you with fairway bunkers in the least opportune places. However, when the weather is nice, which it has been unless you played Friday morning (and even then it wasn't all that bad, just some rain) then the top players in the world can score here because they flat out just hit the ball straighter and farther than any previous generation. Talent, equipment, fitness, whatever. That's why it's CarNicety this week so far. However, throw in some of the very common winds around here and guys are going to have to lay up from these fairway bunkers on par 4s and then shoot 225 into undulating greens surrounded by bunkers in heavy winds. This could get ugly very quickly. It's not the course's fault that it's played this easy. Mother nature served the players a softball.

Since Spieth found his putter yesterday he's just FELT like the favorite. I think he's going to win tomorrow unless the winds come in. If they do then it could be literally anybody -2 or better and I wouldn't be surprised.

Reed had a repeat day of Friday - went low early and then couldn't finish. No matter how easy the course is, 16 and 17 are super tough. 16 could see several doubles+ tomorrow if the winds come in as it's built for crosswinds. On 17 it's almost impossible to drive over the burn without a tail wind which provides one of the few must lays on the course. There is also a massive bunker in front of the green that you don't want to be near. The pin placements on this hole have been nice so far and it's still played hard. I wouldn't be shocked to see the pin near that front bunker tomorrow to really punish players.

Adios, Zach Johnson. He couldn't afford a round over par when other guys are shooting the lights out. Yes I may be trying to emotionally hedge off that 80-1 I had on the Friday leader. So what? He really does seem toast here. Another ho hum top 20.

Wow was today just a drinking party in Scotland. Nice day at The Open apparently just draws them out in masses. Definitely saw some people peeing in places they shouldn't have been and others just passed out on some of the fairways that aren't being played. Y'all go hard up here. Tons of people working under the old saying that you "can't be drunk all day if you don't start before noon".

Finally, I'm going to talk about what it's like to follow Tiger while he's on. Following Tiger when he's shooting even thru THU and FRI is one thing. He gets the biggest crowd always but you can always jump two holes ahead and catch him on the next tee box. Today? No chance. People were sprinting from location to location just to get a glimpse at him. Literally 15,000 people were just filling every gallery he was approaching. And you know what? I totally get it. I am not easily start struck. I've worked for multiple sitting presidents and various political leaders and I've never really been thrown off my game. Tiger came walking up to 5 tee yesterday while I was standing right behind it and I felt like I was witnessing Jesus come back to earth. You just FEEL that the world is different when he's in your presence. The previous poster who said he'll never forget being around Tiger at age 11 is totally understandable to me. I'll never forget what it felt like to watch Tiger walk up to a tee box that I was standing at. I hope he goes out and shoots 64 tomorrow not for all he's been through bla bla bla, but for the reason that I think many people on that course were probably there because they were fans of Tiger 20+ years ago and that's what got them interested in watching/playing golf. The electricity on the course when Tiger is going well is unlike anything I've experienced in sports. It's almost ethereal. And I'm glad that if I ever have kids and grand kids that I'll be able to tell them I followed Tiger when he was swagging through a Saturday round at a major.

I've already gotten more than my money's worth. I'm just going to go out tomorrow and enjoy a Sunday at The Open. What a week. D4 updates as they happen. Cheers.

Awesome TR’s LK keep me coming.

Spieth shoots 70 tomorrow and is your Open Champion by 3 shots.

Don’t trust Schauffele or Kisner in the conditions tomorrow, and I think anybody is gonna struggle to shoot 68 or better out there.

Thanks for the insight LK. I really like hearing what the ground/course condition/ sightlines are really like because it’s hard to tell just from TV.

You mentioned a few posts back about the bean bags. They are indeed awesome. I posted up in one for a bit after exploring the course when I was at the 2014 Open. They should be a staple at all sporting events.

Fleetwood is my pick out of the longshots at -5. McIlroy and Tiger both gonna wilt if the conditions get tough.

Honestly if anyone wins out of the back of the pack I think it’s gonna be TIGERRRRRRR

Gonna keep playing the stinger off the tee and he’s as mentally prepared as anyone out there. I could see it playing super tough but him shooting 69 or 70 to finish at 6 or 7 under.

Fading the hell out of Rory tomorrow though. Dude just isn’t mentally tough enough and his ball flight is bad for a windy Open Championship.

Molinari has impressed me the most this week and may be the biggest threat to Spieth. Just hoping for an interesting day.

Tiger 4th betting favorite on bovada +1200. I'll be stoked if he pulls it off tomorrow, but personally don't see it happening. He's still giving back shots when he shouldn't, should have closed his round off at least -6 today. Too many guy's at -5 and above with Spieth on top. I like Tiger's ability to grind out if it plays that hard. He'll need a lot of help from the weather gods to make it play as hard as possible imo. It is shaping up that way, but I just don't think it will be enough for him. Too late of a move. He needed to stay at -2 or -3 on Thursday or Friday to put himself in real position (in his defense he got screwed with the worst tee time draw for sure).

Still showing some nerves every time he gets around the lead too, have to imagine he'll break out of that eventually, but man...it's still a thing. Only thing that's gonna solve it is a WIN!

Nice little feature on Ben Hogan just now during the early coverage. He had won the masters and us open in a particular year, but across the pond, there were voices saying he still needed to win at the home of golf to prove something or another. So, he came 2 weeks early to acquaint, and ultimately won the open championship by 4 shots, the only player to improve his score each round. Then he went home for a parade in NY City, and never played the open championship again.

Definitely a lot more wind out here today. Could be good for chaos. Otherwise it’s another lovely day in Scotland. Crowds are big and beers are flowing.

Pat Perez and Bernhard Langer just tees off together. That’s about as odd a couple as can go off together.
