But I wouldn't want to wait either if I had broken several laws already.

Gas station employees and management, the DJ dude who translated, and the two other US swimmers who weren't under risk of perjury all agreed.

The police also noted that they did receive a call from the gas station that morning at that time. Police, with access to all the video, and with by extension tacit agreement of FBI and Consulate officials, stated publicly that all those accounts and the video are consistent.

I mean, yeah, I'm willing to call that a fact at that point. I can't see how anyone thinks it's not a fact at this point.

Still saying that he had a gun pointed at him with a demand for money. Also taking responsibility for his actions and apologizing.
You thinking that's him taking responsibility is laughable. From both his teammates' and others' statements, he was the most drunk and aggressive and caused the most damage. Nowhere in his statement does he take responsibility for his actions that night and barely takes any responsibility for making this a story by lying his ass off in the following days. He still isnt coming clean. He's just continuing his actions of changing his story a bit as new facts come in to make his old story seem like bull****.

If you believe the story of the DJ who translated, the gun was used to stop them from fleeing and calm them down. The negotiations for money came after the swimmers pleaded for the cops not to be called and offered to pay. If this DJ was nice enough to help out these guys in a bad situation with a language barrier, I dont think he's that likely to just start making **** up. It's not like these guys were trying to explain the situation and make things right and then guns were drawn and they were extorted. They trashed the place and tried to gtfo.

Ive lived in a Mexican beach town for the last 4.5 years and this story is pretty familiar to me. Americans on vacation in a country they see as lower class getting drunk and not having respect for property or the people. Im sure Vegas locals see similar behaviors from bros there for the weekend. Getting a gun pulled on you definitely sucks and if it was used to extort money that's obviously not ok. But they got out of this situation for 50 bucks when in the US theyre probably getting arrested and paying infinitely more in damages and court costs. I guess in the US you could get away easier without having to take responsibilty; so there's that.

A Lochte statement coming from a lawyer is a total scam. I will now divine Lochte's actual telling of the tale, based on what I know of him:

*Ryan Lochte goes epic clubbing with 3 guys who wish they were Ryan Lochte, jeah.
*Dude, these guys want to be me so much they're wearing the same SHOES as me!
*One of the guys who wishes he was me has us stop at a gas station on the way home.
*Dude, this gas station suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked!
*Guy who doesn't even speak english gets all in my face for NO REASON!
*Beta relay guys give him money for NO REASON!
*I'm pretty sure that dick just wanted a Ryan Lochte autograph--which I wasn't going to give, nah jeah!
*That guy had a gun and pulled it, but if that guy pulled a gun on me I totally woulda been like, "Whatever"!
*They wanted us to wait for police so we could give them some autographs, but I was like, "No thanks, brah."
*That's like, exactly what I said to everyone.
*Poor Ryan Lochte's mom--can't help but run her mouth sometimes.
*The cops barely spoke english, too, and were like, "Congratulations on all your success, bro." Jeah--that just happened!
*Dude, Matt Lauer suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks!
*What is the point of these 3 losers waiting around Rio once I'm gone? Pretending they're Ryan Lochte?
*"Ah, Ryan, we got problems, brah." Like, dudes, you need to grow up and stop pretending you're me.
*Dude, did you notice EVERY story out there mentions how I'm handsome? Jeah!

So basically what we can conclude is that all of this **** is Ryan's mom's fault. Wonder if Lochte is getting any heat from his playmate girlfriend?

(and who would have thought that a playmate would be the smart one in a relationship?)

American swimmer Gunnar Bentz arrived home in Georgia on Friday and said he never lied about being robbed at a gas station while out in Rio de Janeiro with teammates on the final night of Olympic swimming.

In a statement released late Friday that included an apology, Bentz said he never saw anyone break down a bathroom door, and that he, Jack Conger, Jimmy Feigen and Ryan Lochte relieved themselves on nearby bushes after a night out.

Lochte tore a sign down from the building, Bentz said, and then the four returned to their taxi. Bentz said they were ordered out of the cab by security guards and ultimately forced, with guns drawn, to sit on a nearby sidewalk. He says Lochte then got up and yelled at the guards.

"As Jimmy and Jack were walking away from the vehicle, the first security guard held up a badge to me and drew his handgun. I yelled to them to come back toward us and they complied," Bentz said. "Then the second guard drew his weapon and both guards pointed their guns at us and yelled at us to sit on a nearby sidewalk.

"Again, I cannot speak to his actions, but Ryan stood up and began to yell at the guards. After Jack and I both tugged at him in an attempt to get him to sit back down, Ryan and the security guards had a heated verbal exchange, but no physical contact was made.

"A man that I believe to be a customer approached us and offered to help as he spoke both English and Portuguese. Understandably, we were frightened and confused during this time. Through the interpreter, one of the guards said that we needed to pay them in order to leave. I gave them what I had in my wallet, which was a $20 bill, and Jimmy gave them 100 Reals, which is about $50 in total. They lowered the guns and I used hand gestures to ask if it was okay to leave and they said yes. We walked about a block down the street and hailed another taxi to return to the Village.

The version provided by the translator, 38-year-old Fernando Deluz, said a gun wasn't pointed at them during the encounter

Bentz also said there were additional video angles that support his account that may not have been released.

"I also believe some scenes have been skipped over," he said. "Additionally, I would like to stress that our original taxi was not pulled over; the only occupants of the taxi were the four of us and the driver; and to my knowledge, there was no damage done to the door or the inside of the restroom."
They peed in the bushes and pulled a poster off a wall. Some guys then pulled them out of a car at gunpoint and demanded they fork over what they've got in their pockets.

They probably had the option of waiting for the cops. Atleast according to the guy that was translating for them.

Right, you need to trust the Brazilian side or the story. You know, the guys who made up the story of the bathroom being destroyed (The Big Lead went on site and confirmed there was no damage, which jives with Bentzs account). And the translator, who just happened to forgot the detail of the guns being pointed at the Americans

Again, plenty of blame on both sides. Not cool to rip down a sign or piss in random places, but pulling out guns and demanding cash for this stuff is some lololol vigilante justice.

It certainly is closer to justice than what they got from the Brazilian criminal justice system. Having to pay a $11k bribe for taking a piss.

I look forward to seeing how Clark will spin Bentz's report. I'm sure he will just say he is lying, even though all evidence points to Bentz's report being accurate.

From everything I've seen, it seems pretty obvious that Bentz's is telling the truth. Everything from the video to the non-damaged bathroom backs up his story. And his account of the story is robbery, even though it's nowhere near what dumbass Lochte originally told NBC.

What is there to spin. His report and the other swimmer's don't change anything. Here's the other swimmer's statement.

Quote:
Early Sunday morning I was with USA swimming teammates celebrating at the French House. Four of us took a taxi back to the Olympic Village, and on the way we pulled into a gas station to use the restroom, but ultimately relieved ourselves outside, for which I apologize. Ryan Lochte removed a poster from a nearby wall, which apparently alerted the gas station employees, leading to our being confronted by two armed security men. Although I cooperated with their requests while there was a heated exchange among others, at one point a weapon was pointed at me. Eventually, a man appeared who was able to translate for us, helping to defuse the situation. We paid some money to compensate them for the torn poster, and returned to the Village in a different taxi.
