The basic elements of a robbery was present. Fake cops pointed guns at them and money was given. These guys were dumb assed but its stupid to make it an international incident.

even if that's true, which at least part of the people involved don't think it is, why is that important to this discussion? Other than the brazilian police having another crime to investigate, the situation doesn't change for the swimmers.

my apologies, I agreed with your take. but the asshats in this case are the US swimmers.

Since everyone continues to say there were cops , am I correct in assuming there was more than one and it wasn't a Brazilian rent a cop?

Guns being drawn you can see on the video, no one denies money being exchanged. That should be enough to support their claim of robbery and clear the swimmers of filing a false police report. Not entirely sure that answers your question I did my best.

They are prison guards moonlighting as security.

if you lie about how and when you were robbed, and what was stolen, that certainly falls under "false police report"

We would have to look at the police report to see how different it was from what actually took place. It seems to me that the biggest lies Lochte told was to NBC. It's a traffic ticket sort of violation even if they made the entire thing up. it's not a get a judge to hold detain witnesses/hold you in country sort of thing.

So Lochte's story is basically true right? Fake cop pulled them out of a taxi at gunpoint and took his money? He just left out the part about peeing on the wall?

Yeah those guys totally should have checked their privilege and not complained about being robbed at gunpoint. Being born an American white male is still such a great advantage that we basically should welcome poor minorities robbing us. It's only fair. They deserve that money.

See that's the problem. This is why people are generally apathetic about certain individuals getting 'robbed'. This is what Brazilians and generally other peoples of the world don't like. It's just a general attitude of disrespect. When you come into my home, don't put your feet on my tables. Don't ash your cigarettes on my floor. Don't spill beer on my stuff and laugh about it. My things might not be nice, but its still mine. Just learn how to carry yourself. Look at this situation, do you see any similarities to something that might happen in the US? Dude gets intoxicated, gets 'robbed', calls his mom who blast it all over the news. He's a 32 year old, grown ass man who gets into a bad situation and then calls and tells his mom. Be aware of your surroundings and be cognizant of what you are doing. Most importantly, be respectful of others and their culture/property. I'm directing this at you because you seem to have his similar attitude (maybe you don't).

Lol pwn_master. Gonna go out on a limb and say that even if it was bribery (which is definitely not clear) that they're gonna wanna look the other way on that one since bribing police, politicians, and judges is basically a way of life down there.

Evidently, that is a $25,000 fashion statement.

Ha, I'm just kidding--I don't feel bad for this walking bitch move at all.

Agree the only smart move these idiots made was to throw some cash at their problem and leave. Seems like the only time Lochte hasn't been leading this clown car. Coincidence, i'm sure.

If you are the world's dumbest person, then yes, his story is true.

The actual version, as confirmed by everyone not named Ryan Lochte, is the guys trashed a service station and then decided they would just leave. A security guard pulled out his weapon and told them that they were staying until the owner gets there. He arrived, and the athletes, faced with the choice of giving him some money or waiting around for the police, decided to give him some money, which amounted to $50.

At which point the incident was pretty much over until Ryan Lochte decided to invent a completely different version of events that involved a taxi getting pulled over (which never happened), a person showing a fake police badge (which never happened), a gun being cocked and pressed against his head (whichy never happened) and him and the other swimmers being forced to turn over all several hundred dollars (which never happened), all the time leaving out the part where they trashed the gas station by being drunken idiots.

But, since America's greatest exports nowadays seems to be bombs and morons, let's all believe that Lochte was really the victim here.

Throwing cash at the guy with the gun demanding cash not only seems like the smart move, but the only move.

There isn't a whole lot of difference between:

1. Fake cop pulls you out of a cab, pulls a gun, and demands money

and

2. Security guard pulls you out of a cab, pulls a gun, and asks for money

This applies even more if you are hammered drunk as the exact wording of the monetary request/demand is probably not going to be etched in your brain. Additionally, a security guard is basically equivalent to a fake cop. There would also be no reason to mention their preceding actions because they obviously make them look terrible.

How much does it cost to make an international bathroom scandal go away in Rio?? Just short of $11,000 ... at least for Team USA swimmer Jimmy Feigen.
The swimmer's lawyer just announced that JF struck a deal with Brazilian officials ... in which he agreed to pony up a check for $10,800 to a Brazilian charity called the Reaction Institute.
