Lol at whoever is writing the commentary for the US-Canada baseball game:

"Apparently, the way it works is if one of the Chinese ballboys handles all of his chances, he's added to China's roster for its next game."

And nice, Tiffee(whoever that is, heh) just doubled to bring in the go-ahead run. 5-4 US, a couple of clutch 2 out hits with RISP, just what we needed in this inning. That Tiffee guy is 8-16 with 4 doubles in this tournament, not bad IMO.

Nice...but it leaves out Bela's gigantic wig-out at the end.

This shows all of Bela's rections, but not the routine behind him. (They cut out the gymnastics and replaced it with...well, something else.) For those of you who didn't catch it last night and can't get it online, the "Beautiful! Beautiful!" part is on the landing after her last backflip into the corner.

Meh, the reaction is great by Bela....but I don't get whats so funny about that "remix." Sorry that just seems a bit to childish...considering there had to be 1000 things that they coulda done that I would have easily found funny.

But Bela is my new favorite tv personality, and really needs a spot on NBC Football Night in America. I didn't understand anything he said about gymnastics the past few nights but I still felt smarter after just hearing him talk, I imagine it would be the same with football and possibly even more entertaining.

Anyway, US softball yet again looking human.

Edit: Wow a reliable arm coming out of the pen?? I'm shocked seeing this as I am a Met fan. Sign him up!! (who does this duensing pitch for?)

Duensing is in AAA for the Twins.

I can't find baseball on TV. Are they showing it on tape delay or something?

www.nbcolympics.com

Why it isn't on TV has been a mystery to me this whole olympics, yet softball is always on. Either way, 2 outs in the 8th, like to see a rally to get another run here.

I think so. They showed last night's Cuba-US baseball game this afternoon, 12 hours later. They announced that tomorrow's game will be on US TV at like 2pm tomorrow afternoon, but I think it's live online.

Oops, too slow, it is online. Wow, not having announcers is great.

To put this in perspective.
the swimmers congregate in a ready room. The clerk of course checks them in. at the appropriate time they are instructed to proceed to the deck. At that point they are handed off to the referee by the clerk. The ref basically has two duties prior to handing them off to the starter.
1) he will instruct them to remove any warmup clothing and get ready for their race with a whistle/whistles. They are allowed a reasonable time to do this. 2) After the competitors have had that reasonable period of time the referee will instruct them to take the blocks with another whistle and then hands them off to the starter whose duties are to ensure a fair start of the race of the swimmers present and certify that back to the ref.

If you get to see the replay- you'll notice I think that the athletes have their warmups removed (torres certainly does)- meaning they had already been told to do that by the referee. The remaining duty of the referee prior to the start is to then signal the swimmers to the blocks and hand them off to the starter.
He may have some latitude in the amount of time he takes to do that- he may have said sure we'll hold on a bit- but it's his or her only remaining duty at the point we pick up Torres on the side of the pool. We don't even know if they've been called to the blocks and Torres is protesting that or if she's just making sure everyone knows to hang on a second before they call them to the blocks. But the ref has already done at least his first duty in getting the swimmers to remove their warmups and get behind the blocks.

Torres is over on the side of the pool making it at least obvious the referee or starter should not proceed past whatever point they are at. I'd have to see a replay to see whether it was the ref or starter at that point.

It's a bit hard to tell the sequence from just the one time thru the broadcast and the side story will eventually be written- The missing part is whether Alshammer had paraded out on deck, removed her warmups and only then discovered the rip. If not- the ref had started the process of getting the race ready without her- so Torres is showing some prudent concern I think is all.

It's possible the ref would have delayed another X seconds/minutes without Torres doing anything. We don't know that for sure. What we do know is that if the swimmers are instructed to take the blocks and Alshammer cannot present herself she is out of the competition.

I mean sure- in a vacuum it doesn't seem like a big deal for Torres to do what she was doing- and i can see where people would think it's being overplayed. But a swimmer not on deck when NBC cuts to the anticipated start of a race is kind of a big deal. Torres is going beyond what some athletes will do there- and more importantly she's sacrificing her own routine to some extent.

A nobel prize- obv not. But it's not like she pointed out someones shoe laces were undone either.

Softball blowing their game open, Baseball has a chance to do this right now. Man an insurance run would be really nice here, but with the way duensing has pitched in the 7th and 8th they might not need it.

Ahhh, damn oh well, lets go duensing.

Edit: Also, looks like USA softball got another break, they called a girl safe at first because the 1B pulled off the bag early....but I don't think the Taipei girl took her foot off the base early.

Ahh gives up a hit after retiring 8 straight. Aight, time for a nice DP ball here to end it.

BTW, I know I said it last night, but jesus these announcers for the softball game are just either dumb, stupid, or just don't give a rats ass with what they say.

Truth.

And LOL at Canada calling for a balk, not because he did or didn't but because I laughed hearing their dugout in unison go, "horse****!"

Watch it anyway. The ending is the closest in the history of everything.

Also...yay back to .500

Duensing had some control issues near the end but he did a fairly good job with the last couple of innings.

Alright baseball takes it, fantastic job out of the pen for duensing who I found out is actually a starter. From Live Commentary it says that the US needs a win vs China then to go at least 1-1 vs Japan and China Taipei. Which sounds doable with a win vs China and China Taipei, and a loss vs Japan, would be my guess the most likely way they go about going 2-1 in those games. Tho some reason I feel like China Taipei will be a tough game as well.

Edit: also notes that Canada needs to win out vs a very difficult schedule. I like the handshakes at the end of the game oto.

The US still needs to win two of the next three to advance, and they are playing China, Taiwan, and Japan in that order. China shouldn't be too bad, but advancing is not set in stone yet.
