To me the relay win was still so much more awesome because you could feel the surge and start to anticipate the potential miracle.

I still liked the relay better because of the French talking/aspect and it was a team as compared to just individual, but by all means that was a very very very sick ending.

In that race the line was inching up for sure although Adlington did a great job holding it off also. Evans was a negative split swimmer meaning she came back as fast or faster as she went out.

massive swim for Adlington there. Janet Evans was as dominant in the women's distance freestyles as Phelps has ever been in any single event. 19 year standing world record shows that.

the more times they show the replay of the fly the more you can see Cavic's hands starting to come perpendicular to the surface of the water towards the last inches of the race- meaning he's not fully extended out- and all his momentum is gone. I'm still not sure how the hell it happened- but you can at least see how it could. He hits the wall much more flat palmed than Phelps who is on a half stroke and has a drive to his touch with the fingertips.

Phelps is happy about that (probably). Crocker was the reason that Phelps didn't have a chance to get eight gold medals at the world championships (because Crocker jumped early in the relay and got the team disqualified), and they've not been friendly since (from what I've read).

Yes, they did. Obviously it's difficult to show who touched first, but it did show it was very close, and that the reason was he was coasting in from too far out.

Crocker and Phelps I think get along okay- I mean they are chief rivals in an event so they aren't going to be best buds and there will always be competitive juices. Crocker is a bit of a loner and does his own thing but I've never really heard any stories about any bad feelings between the two from that false start last year.

I really don't think there would have been any way Crocker wouldn't have given up the relay slot tbh considering Phelps did that for him 4 years ago and that he cost that relay a gold (and Phelps an 8th gold) in the WC last year.
