Crocker is the current world record holder at 50.4
While it's possible he isn't showing his entire hand yet neither has Phelps.
They just had a segment on covering the scenario where Crocker would win the fly. He's swimming the prelims of the relay as the second US entrant in the individual event.
If he would beat Phelps there would be almost no way I can imagine he wouldn't give up the final to Phelps. Prelim and Finals swimmers both get medals for the medal winning relays.
Phelps isn't leaving China without at least 7 golds barring a relay DQ.
But it may be all moot. Phelps was able to go 50.9 a half hour after his IM. And his 100 free was an American record leading off the 4x 100 relay. He has more speed than he's ever had- which was his weakness in 100s for a long time.
In short- I think it takes a world record to beat him tomorrow night. Not sure anyone is up to that.
