Is the US/China basketball game right after the opening ceremony? I'm pretty excited about the olympics since I'm only 2 timezones away from Beijing. China state TV is running this cool countdown timer.

I like opening ceremonies. It's like gigantic propaganda events that are extremely similar, no matter if the host is a democracy or dictatorship.

Showing off with a massive budget usually turn into something quite impressive. BUT WE NEED MORE SINGING CHILDREN.

I had no idea (as I said, don't follow soccer that much).
That isn't the case for other sports I don't think. So the Olympics soccer is really some weird kind of glorified U23 tourney with 3 veterans allowed. That's just so odd. Not as odd as the new baseball rules for the 11th inning but odd nonetheless. Would be nice to let whoever have however many veterans as they want.

never paid any attention to any opening ceremonies before this so not much to compare with but very impressive so far I would say.

The football world cup is such a huge event in it's own right, that the Olympics just couldn't compete so they settled for some youth thingie instead. As for the veterans, I guess it is just for some star power to increase interest.

But on the whole, football fans don't particularly care about the olympic tournament. It may be fun to watch a game here and there but there is no reason to follow it religiously like the World Cup or European Championships.

And so the horrific US coverage begins. Sigh.

Ahahahahaha, the Today show this morning going "what do we expect to see tonight at the Opening Ceremonies" and having this whole protracted fake discussion about something that's already gone on. LOL **** you NBC **** you for ruining the Olympics and killing my interest with your reliably ****ty ****ing coverage.

I can understand sporting events, but who cares if you see the Opening Ceremonies on tape delay?

Whatever, it's everything. This is simply more of what's to come, and their acting like it's 1954 on TV and pretending stuff hasn't happened yet is just nuts. I mean, wtf, their internet feed doesn't even carry it. Simply crazy.

I thought it was funny how all nations walked relatively diciplined during the athlete's parade, except for USA - who all moved towards the side with the TV cameras, almost making a full stop due to the bottleneck effect.

Is there an internet feed out there from the BBC, CBC, or any English speaking country where we could watch stuff live, covered as if it were - oh I don't know - sports?

I totally understand their feeling that people won't want to watch stuff at 5am, and don't have the attention span for raw swimming prelims w/o backstory up the wazoo. BUT COULD YOU MAKE ACTUAL SPORTS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE OF US WHO DO? I mean my grandma could find out the scores online if she wanted to. So it's not like your saving people from spoilers by not showing anything in any outlet. Ugh.

If I ever see Bob Costas in public I'm going to walk up and bitchslap him. He's on the list, along with the Pac-10 and Big-10 commissioners and Nancy Grace.
